My dear readers,

Let us be Feng Shui warriors and galvanize 9 core beliefs that bring power to our feng shui practice!

The past months have been disorienting for all of us. The Coronavirus COVID-19 has brought deep changes to our lifestyles and profoundly disrupted our lives. People worldwide have suffered and continue to suffer. The virus has caused more than 365,000 deaths worldwide. Millions around the world have lost their livelihoods and many live in fear of the virus and the consequences that this virus brings.

At times like this, hope seems to be in short supply. It seems hard to imagine how we can move forward, and many times we are near to submitting to despair caused by being in lockdown, in feeling loneliness and for some of us, experiencing the real pain of loss. This is a year when we feel life’s challenges most acutely.

But to succumb to despair is not the way of the warrior. Hence we need to call on our inner reserves of strength. Be a warrior my friends. Dig deep into your own inner core to pull out your strengths. Focus on the spirit of the warrior within yourselves. Breathe deeply and believe!

This is the secret TAO of Feng Shui.

These are the 9 core beliefs that can galvanize our mental strength to give laserlike power and illumination to our practice of feng shui!

NINE CORE BELIEFS

  1. Believe your own strength is powerful – like a rock.
  2. Believe your own inner instincts are incredible – like magic.
  3. Believe your thoughts are totally focused – like a laser beam.
  4. Believe your intentions have clear cut clarity – work at this.
  5. Believe your creativity sharpen your aspirations – think this through.
  6. Believe there is resilience in your intentions – be mindful of this.
  7. Believe there is magic in your core knowledge – there is indeed!
  8. Believe your transformation of aspirations is instant – it is magic.
  9. Believe you are a beacon of light shining brightly – believe and it is so!

Use all that you know – the sum total of your experiences, your knowledge, your training, and your instincts -to defeat fear of the virus! This will cause you to illuminate your own human condition and transform into a warrior.

These beliefs are sure to work for you as they have worked for me. Take a pause during these troubled times and examine your own beliefs. Work at staying strong spiritually and mentally. Make the effort to find your own inner strength and determination. And while strengthening yourself, don’t forget to find time to inspire your kids and your family.

We can use our collective inner strengths to dissolve the fear of the virus that is currently affecting the world. We can use our collective intention to inspire those we love so that together, we are brave enough to let our hearts reach out even as we practice social distancing.

Do not let the virus conquer you! Use your inner strengths to overcome this alien virus. Let its effect on all of us be superficial.

Let us defeat it with the power of our collective thought!

Let us engage the power of our minds and send out into the universe, our singular intentions to defeat the virus!

With much love,
Lillian

The name of Lillian Too needs no introduction. Grandmother, mother, wife and the world’s #No: 1 authority on Feng Shui and bestselling author of over 100 books on the subject, which have been translated into over 30 languages, Lillian lends a moment today to share her wisdom and knowledge on what to expect of Rat Year-born babies, their personality, their inclination for certain professions and how best to navigate this Year of the Metal Rat for a stronger, happier family unit in the home.

“Feng Shui, also known as Chinese geomancy, is the ancient art and science of using energy forces to harmonize individuals with the built environment and the principles of the natural world. The philosophy is to connect and flow with the tide of nature. The term Feng Shui means “wind water” in English.”

As a mother herself, Lillian offers invaluable guidance on how to make the home a conducive one for children to thrive in, on maximizing their potential in their studies and also about ensuring marital bliss.

For those expecting a 2020 baby and those already having Rat Year-born children, here is maternal and Chinese metaphysical insight that has never been revealed to you before.

Mums, aren’t you in for a special treat this year! So, buckle up and here we go.

(Left): A doting mother herself, Lillian Too can be seen here with her daughter Jennifer when they were holidaying in Greece many years ago; and (Right): mother and daughter, still as close as ever, today.

Motherhood Chats with Lillian Too

1. Motherhood: Many mothers-to-be are expecting their babies in 2020. They will be very excited to know about what to expect of their little ones. Can you tell us a bit about the personality and traits of Rat Year babies and where their talents will lie when they grow up?

Lillian Too: Every family is lucky to have a Rat in the family as they are believed to bring the family a lot of wealth! Anyone having a Rat Baby this year is lucky indeed! Rat children are extremely creative, often with great talent in the arts. They are thirsty for knowledge, absorbing everything they hear and learn, and are often walking encyclopedias. They also seem precocious for their age.

While they are naturally artistic, they are often just as good at the sciences ─ and may pursue a more science-based path as they grow up ─ but Rats who choose to pursue the arts as their profession will do very well indeed.

Rats are sociable creatures and love nothing more than good company. They are terrific at small talk and making others feel comfortable in their presence. Rat kids tend to be huggy and very affectionate. They have an in-born sensitivity chip, empathizing with others, and making all in their company feel good and loved.

Rats are natural collectors. They love to collect plush toys, pet rocks and other such knick knacks. They often treasure souvenirs that they bring back from holidays. Like their animal namesake, they are “hoarders” ─ a habit that will only intensify as they grow into adulthood.

This year’s Rat is a Metal Rat. This Rat will often find him or herself in the company of rich and powerful friends. This Rat likes the good life and will use his or her considerable charm to win over allies in powerful places; and will likely rise to a high station in life.

2. Motherhood: Can you advise about the health of the baby and how to avoid sickness?

Lillian Too: If your baby is falling sick often, check the Feng Shui of your South sector. This is where the Illness Star of the year has settled, so if health is a problem in your household, keep this area of the home quiet (do not have bright lights or too much noise here) and place a Healing Herbs Wu Lou here.

3. Motherhood: Where should his cot be placed?

Lillian Too: Avoid having the cot in the South, East and Center sectors. These are the most afflicted sectors this year. You can also tap your Rat baby’s personal growth direction by having his or her head pointed WEST for a baby boy Rat, and NORTH EAST for a baby girl Rat.

4. Motherhood: How should parents make for a calmer, happier, more well-adjusted baby growing up in 2020?

Lillian Too: Play with your baby, breastfeed, keep your baby stimulated and active. In today’s world, there are so many options for baby’s enrichment. Take advantage of living in a modern country like Malaysia and make use of all these facilities at our doorstep! Most important for any baby is interaction, and especially the Rat baby, who just LOVES interacting and social stimulation.

5. Motherhood: Let’s talk about other children, not just the Rat-born. How can Feng Shui help with their studies so that they do well in school?

Lillian Too: For school-going children, have them face one of their lucky directions when they are studying or sitting at their workdesk. You can check their lucky directions with the KUA CALCULATOR on our website here. You should also get them the Scholastic Amulet to hang off their schoolbag. It brings them excellent study and examination luck.

Lillian Too, with daughter Jennifer and grandson Jack, posing under and next to posters of her book, “Get Rich With Water”.

6. Motherhood: If there is more than one child at home, how can parents arrange their sleeping environment to ensure less sibling rivalry or conflict in the home?

Lillian Too: For children’s bedrooms, if siblings don’t share bedrooms, make sure the bedroom doors to their separate bedrooms don’t directly face one another. This will make them quarrelsome with each other and sibling rivalry could become a problem.

7. Motherhood: What about matrimonial bliss and family stability? How can Feng Shui help in these areas?

Lillian Too: Every home needs to invite in the Fire Dragon holding a Fireball to be placed in the NORTH sector. This is where the quarrelsome star of the year has flown, and if the main door into your home is located in this sector, things could become very noisy for you! The Fire Dragon symbolically suppresses the hostile energies of the quarreling star, which is especially strong this year because the quarrelsome star is a Wood Star, which gets fueled by the energy of the North, which is a Water sector. Water produces Wood, so the energy of the Quarrelsome Star becomes stronger.

8. Motherhood: Do you have any advice for mothers and wives on making a happy home for the family?

Lillian Too: Mothers and wives should lead their own lives as well as play mother and wife. A happy balance will go a long way in ensuring you are at your best when with the family. Whether your personal time is filled with a career, a hobby, or your own social circle of friends, having a life outside of the home is more important than you think.

Make sure you don’t have a water feature or pond or aquarium on the right side of your front door (inside looking out) as this causes marital problems.

Based on detailed calculation, this year is a good year to receive the God of Wealth on the first day of Chinese New Year. The God of Wealth brings you wealth and abundance of good fortune. This year, the direction of god of wealth is WEST.

On the first day, the daily Lo Shu number 6 shines in the West sector. This brings good heaven luck to the home and makes it an auspicious day to receive the God of Wealth coming from West. Houses facing West should pray to the God of Wealth; doing so will bring wealth, prosperity, career advancement and a fulfilling year.

THE RECEIVING RITUAL

To receive the God of Wealth, select an auspicious hour according to your animal sign of birth. The table below provides time guides for the welcoming ritual. (Note: those born in the Year of Rooster, you are advised NOT to receive the God of Wealth as this day is your conflict animal sign day.)

Time Auspicious Inauspicious
Time: 12am to 1am (Rat Hour) Auspicious: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Dragon, Snake, Dog & Boar Inauspicious: Rabbit, Horse, Sheep & Rooster
Time: 11am to 1pm (Horse Hour) Auspicious: Ox, Tiger, Dragon, Horse, Sheep, Dog & Boar Inauspicious: Rat, Rabbit, Snake, Rooster & Monkey

Firstly, take a shower. It is auspicious to receive God Of Wealth with a clean body and new clothes.

Secondly, use the compass to locate the West direction. Turn your altar table to face the West direction. Place an incense burner in the center of the table. Place all ingredients on a red-coloured plate behind the incense burner. The two sets of three small cups should be placed in front of the incense burner. Make two rows. Pour the tea into the first row of cups and white rice wine into the second row of cups.

When you are ready, you can start to receive the God of Wealth at the auspicious time selected. Light the candles on the altar in your home and turn on all the lights. Make three prostrations to the Deities on your altar, then light the candle and large incense stick on the small table set up outside the house, which should face the West direction.

The Patriarch of the family should hold the large incense stick and prostrate to the God of Wealth. When making prayers, he should hold the incense stick in both hands and kneel down. He must invite the God of Wealth to come to the house, and make the request on behalf of the family members. Then he should place the large incense stick into the incense burner. Light the medium incense stick and distribute to the rest of family members. Everyone should make a prayer.

When incense sticks are burnt half way, your mind should be focused on inviting the God of Wealth into your home. After that, make a toast. Pour 3 cups of tea (about 80%) to the floor. Then, you make the second toast of the wine. Pour 80% of the wine of the 3 cups onto the floor.

Light three incense sticks and hold both hands. As you do so, visualize the God of Wealth walk in front of you and enter your house bringing all kinds of wealth luck.

Let the God of Wealth enter your house first before your foot enters your house. Go straight to your altar at home. Place the incense sticks on the incense burner. Now inform the deities on your altar that you have invited in the God of Wealth and arrange it so he is placed in your wealth corner.

When you have determined the auspicious time suitable for you, prepare the ingredients as follows to pray to the God of Wealth:

  • 3pcs of large incense sticks and a pack of medium incense sticks.
  • Two sets of 3pcs small size porcelain cup (for tea and white wine)
  • One set of red candles
  • One “Fatt Gou” cake
  • One “Fatt Choi” vegetable
  • Five types of fruits
  • Mushrooms
  • Pineapple
  • Sweets
  • “Lian Kou”
  • Pot of Gold
  • Gold Bar, Gold Ingots, I Ching coins
  • God of Wealth sitting on Tiger

Chinese New Year marks the first day of the New Year in the Chinese calendar. It is also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, and celebrations last for 15 days. The first day of Chinese New Year in 2020 falls on January 25th and marks the start of the Year of the Rat. This is the longest and most important of all Chinese festivals.

Auspicious activities to carry out during this time of the year are:

  • Making offerings to household deities.

  • Wearing new clothes, particularly in red.
  • Hosting a large banquet for family and friends.
  • Taking part in lion and dragon dances, as well as festive parades featuring beating gongs and clashing cymbals.

Many children receive “lucky money” in red envelopes and household doors are open to let good luck enter on Chinese New Year Day. It is believed that whatever happens during Chinese New Year, and whatever mood you set, will have an impact on how things go for you for the rest of the year. It is thus important to be happy and cheerful during these 15 days, to hold your temper and not get angry unnecessarily. Surround yourself with people who put you in a good mood.

It is also important to choose good dates for certain activities. For good business luck for the coming year, it is vital to pick a good day to “re-open” the office after the Chinese New Year break. When you re-open your office or business premises, it is good to make some noise with a lion dance. If you can, it is also auspicious to have the lions roll in buckets full of mandarin oranges, Chinese coins and ingots into your office – as this symbolizes the rolling in of gold, wealth and prosperity, and bodes well for your luck in the coming year.

Preparing for Chinese New Year 2020

Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a brand new year, and is regarded by all Chinese as the most important festival to be celebrated. Preparations for this celebration begins as long as 30 days before the start of the Lunar New Year, which is filled with many rituals and important actions to prepare one’s home for the coming new year. This year is especially important as 2020 marks the start of a brand new decade, but more, it also marks the beginning of a brand new cycle, led by the animal sign of the RAT.

Here are the most important things you need to take note of as you prepare for the upcoming Chinese New Year.

Time to Repair and Replace!

At least 60 days before Chinese New Year, you should inspect every corner of your home for cracks on the walls and floors, and especially look for signs of any water leakages. Water damage or water leakages going into the New Year can seriously affect the well-being of family members.

It is important that any water leak, especially leaking faucets, sinks and toilets are repaired, as leaking water in one’s home means “loss of money and unnecessary expenditure”.

You should also consider giving your home a new coat of paint, as doing so means you go into the New Year with a home with fresh new energy.

Ensure that every nook and cranny including behind cupboards, refrigerators, and tops of cupboards are completely swept and cleaned to remove dust and stale energy from the previous year. This is a good time to toss out old magazines, newspaper, unnecessary plastic containers, plastic bags and other items you would never use. While you are cleaning out old trash, keep an eye out for furniture that needs repair or refurbishment.

After you have completed cleaning and repairs, move on to the furniture, sofa sets, tables, chairs and other fixtures; inspect and clean these as well. Sofa sets that are torn or damaged should be repaired or replaced. Inspect your dining table and chairs. They should be in a good state, as the dining table represents the rice bowl of the family. Remove and replace chairs that are broken or rickety.

You must also not forget the bed, as the condition of your bed will play a big part in how the coming year will pan out for you. Sleeping on a damaged or broken bed brings obstacles and obstructions into your life. If the bed frame is cracked or damaged, it can cause rifts in your relationships, and bodes badly for husband and wife.

Inspect the cutlery, plates, cups, bowls and serving dishes you use. Replace any with chips, cracks or that show other signs of damage. Eating using damaged utensils is VERY BAD FENG SHUI! Doing so will hinder your progress in your career and affect the prosperity of the family.

Inspect the contents of your cupboards and clothes drawers, dispose of mismatched socks, torn or thread-worn undergarments, shirts and pants. Give away clothes that you have not worn in more than a year because you didn’t like the colour or design. Clearing out your cupboard not only symbolizes removing bad luck, but also creates the kind of luck that makes room for new things to come into your life. Do the same thing for your shoe cupboard.

Cleaning Your Home Altar

Start by asking the deities for permission to clean, then remove the images and figurines. Make sure you place them on a table that is at least waist high. Never place them on the floor.

Wipe or brush off loose debris, then proceed to wipe all surfaces of your altar clean with water and pomelo leaves (you can also use kaffir lime leaves if you prefer.) You should also replace damaged or worn out items on your altar, and clean out incense burners, candle holders and other offering bowls.

Once you are done cleaning your altar, make a complete set of offerings to your home deities and ensure you have ample supplies of incense, candles and other prayer supplies.

When you are done cleaning and restocking your altar, it is a good idea to perform a simple incense space cleansing for your home. You can do this by lighting up kemenyen or sandalwood incense, then walk around each room 3 times in a clockwise direction, all the while picturing the incense cleansing and removing any stale or negative energy.

Visualize a home filled with laughter, happiness and good luck while you are doing this.

You can also chant the incense offering mantra:-
NAMA SARVA TATHAGATA AVALOKITE OM SAMBHARA SAMBHARA HUM (x21)

Restock Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the powerhouse of your home. This is where families are brought together through the simple process of eating the fruits of their mother’s labour. Ensuring your kitchen is well-stocked with food and supplies is of utmost importance. Start by inspecting your refrigerator – toss out vegetables, fruits, jams, half-open cans and leftover food that is unwanted or expired.

Clean out your rice urn and after washing and drying it well, place a red packet with 3 Chinese coins tied with red thread at the base, and fill to the brim with rice.

Remember that your Rice Urn Must Be Kept At Least ¾ Full All Through the 15 Days of Chinese New Year.

Next, you should stock up your fridge in preparation for Chinese New Year as it is important that you cross over to the New Year with lots of things to eat at home.

Eve of Chinese New Year – Family Reunion Dinner – Friday 24th Jan 2020

In the morning, you should prepare a “tray of togetherness” which is simply a special box filled with an assortment of sweets, biscuits, melon seeds, candies and oranges for any guest that drops by during the 15 days of celebration.

The actual dinner itself is for all members to come together as a sign of togetherness and prosperity. A typical reunion dinner should have a minimum of 8 dishes and comprise the following ingredients, based on their symbolic meanings.

  • Luo Han Zhai (Buddha’s delight) – a vegetarian dish made with “Fatt Choy” (a type of black hair fungus – means prosperity)
  • Bamboo Shoots (brings wealth)
  • Day Lily Buds (“Kanchamku” – means golden needles)
  • Napa Cabbage (Pao Choy – guaranteed success) and other assorted vegetables. This dish is to serve notice to family memberthe importance of purity of mind and togetherness in good karma.
  • A Fish Dish – as fish carries the meaning of “Lin Lin Yao Yue” – which means your year will be filled with abundance and good luck.
  • A Chicken Dish – indicates happiness and a happy marriage, or having Duck which means fidelity and good children.
  • Big Prawns or better still a Lobster – this carries the meaning of “ha ha tai siew” – means there will always be big laughter in your home.
  • Abalone, Scallops, Clams, Oysters – indicates a bountiful harvest for your business.
  • Braised Pork with Sticky Rice – indicates your family will always be together and share success and good fortune with each other.
  • Long Life Noodles – indicates long life for all in the family.
  • A Sweet Dessert – such as those made with peanuts, or red beans is served with a simple dumpling “jiaozi” means that your family always have good endings to every endeavor.
  • Fruits such as pomelo, grapes and oranges are a must as these fruits mean prosperity and abundance of wealth and opportunity.
  • Yee Sang – an all-time favourite in Asia. This dish is eaten all through the New Year as it is a ritual of welcoming prosperity and wealth. The process of putting together the dish is an art by itself filled with many rituals and sayings. Below is a step-by-step method to making the perfect Yee Sang for a prosperous Year of the Metal Rat.

Yee Sang

Step 1:
Pick up the slices of raw fish and place it on the main dish – can be salmon or other suitable raw fish, and say “Lin Lin Yau Yue” – this means every year we shall have an abundance of wealth and prosperity.

Step 2:

Pick up the cut lime and squeeze out the juice over the raw fish, and say “Dai Kat Dai Lei” – this means that with prosperity comes even bigger prosperity.

Step 3:

Pick up the black & white pepper powder together with the sachet of 5 spice powder and say “Ng Kuk Fung Sou” and “Po Po Koh Seng” – this means you will have a big harvest with continuous improvements in the future. Now, scatter the contents of all 3 sachets evenly over the main dish.

Step 4:

Pick up the bowl of oil and plum sauce and say “Choy Yun Kwong Zun” and “Kum Yuk Mun Tong” – this means that wealth will come to the family and their house filled with jewels. Pour the contents evenly over the main dish.

Step 5:

Pick up the crushed peanuts, toasted sesame seeds and sliced lime skin and say “Tai Chi Hong Po” – this means your business will expand and have big success. Pour them over the main dish.

Step 6:

Pick up the bag of crackers and say “Moon Dei Wong Kum” – means that your floor is abundantly covered with gold. Evenly scatter the crackers over the main dish.

Now that the dish is correctly assembled, everyone should stand up and using their chopsticks, gently toss the ingredients together.

Everyone should also say:

Sang Yi Heng Loong – May our business become more prosperous.
Si Si Yu Yi – May we have a smooth career and prosperous year.
San Tai Kin Hong – May our family stay healthy.
Pak Nin Ho Hup – May our marriages be everlasting
Sai Kai Wo Ping – May we live in harmony and have peace.
Ching Chun Mei Lai – May we always stay young at heart.
Nin Sang Guai Zi – May we have wonderful children.
Long Ma Jing San – May we be alert for all business opportunities
Fuk Yu Dong Hoi – May our abundance and prosperity be as vast as the oceans.

• 8 pieces of red Dates

In the past it has always been traditional for single women to toss oranges written with descriptions of their desired partner into the river to seek a husband. However, in today’s modern practice, men are also known to perform this practice to find a suitable wife.

Candles are lighted in a paper lantern and hung up on the outside of the home and “Tong Yuen” is often eaten as dessert on the final celebration dinner of the year.

If there’s one event to save a Sunday for, it would surely be Lillian Too’s Feng Shui Extravaganza! This event is one that Lillian and WOFS has been hosting since 1997, and on Sunday Dec 1st 2019, she welcomed readers and students, fans and friends from around the world, sharing not just her invaluable insights and feng shui forecast for the year, but also a very special musical surprise!

Lillian Too’s Extravaganza 2020 begins!
With friends and feng shui family from all around the world! So much YANG energy!
Hotel Istana provided an excellent backdrop to welcome in the Year of the Metal Rat 2020, a year which holds a ton of promise in the form of hidden wealth!
Lillian opens the day’s events with an in-depth look at the 2020 Feng Shui Chart.

Joining our friends and followers from Malaysia and Singapore, the audience was also made up of guests from the USA, UK, Russia, Romania, Moldovia, Japan, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Ukraine, India, Indonesia, Europe and more! Globally fabulous!

The Lillian Too Extravaganza has over the years become as much a catch-up between friends, as an annual benchmark update event. These friends come from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds, but they all have a passion and interest in the art and science of feng shui, and regularly use the secrets of the Chinese Art of Placement to improve their lives and those of their friends, family and clients. Many of those who fly in specially for the event are Feng Shui experts in their own right.

Lillian opened the event by welcoming all her friends in the audience, some of them very dearest friends. “There are many many countries represented, those who make it a point to come to Kuala Lumpur to share this day with me, they are big names in feng shui in their home countries, or they do amazing things in spreading this wonderful body of knowledge, because that is what feng shui is. To live very harmoniously with nature, and to benefit from the winds and the waters of the world.”

The first session began with Lillian presenting the Feng Shui Chart of 2020.

While the dominant number of the coming year’s chart is 7, a star associated with violence, loss and betrayal, it combines with the animal sign of the year, the Rat, to bring a very special amalgamation that promises fabulous completion luck. The Rat has always been a creature associated with wealth, money and the ability to thrive despite impediments and obstacles, and what this indicates for 2020 is that those with the determination to do so can eke out “hidden gold” and opportunities in a year blessed with a Lap Chun.

The cardinal directions of North, South and East are afflicted, but the secondary directions are lucky – this indicates the cardinal animal signs of Rat, Horse and Rabbit need the necessary cures in place, while the secondary animal signs of Ox, Tiger, Dragon, Snake, Monkey, Sheep, Dog and Boar should look to enhancing the auspicious stars in their sector.

Before the second session, Lillian revealed a very special treat!

She shared her thoughts on music and mathematics, how they relate to feng shui, and then introduced her 15 year old grandson Jack Yeo Zhu Zhiang, who came on stage to fill the hall with a stirring rendition of the Military Polonaise by Frederic Chopin, followed by Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G minor. Both pieces were upbeat, nationalist and fitting anthems to welcome in a brand new 180-year cycle.

Jack holds an LTCL Diploma in Piano Performance and is studying music with a very special lady, Professor Snezana Panovska, who is currently spearheading the start-up of Malaysia’s very first Music Conservatory at Sunway University. She is also Musical Director of the Chopin Society of Malaysia, and hails from Macedonia.

Lillian introduces her grandson Jack Yeo, who treated the audience to a performance of Chopin’s Military Polonaise, and Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in G minor.

The Paht Chee presentation revealed a balanced basket of elements – a good indication, but with a bias towards the Earth element – which points to stress and worry. If there is one skill one would do well mastering this year, it would be to live in a state of mindfulness and to regularly take time to pause and take stock. We are operating in a technologically advanced world, a quantum age where one juggles many balls simply because we can. But we need to balance out that very yang fast-living with moments of quiet and stillness, even if for but a moment.

The other hugely fun and rewarding part of the day is the shopping!

Each year, Lillian and her team at WOFS spends the better part of the year designing products needed to activate the auspicious energies, and those needed to control the afflictions of the year.

Says Lillian, “All of the symbols of good fortune, of protection, really help you. Because all the objects that you put everywhere emit “energy”. And these energies can be either protective or destructive. All the things that we make are very, very enhancing, and very protective. Why? Because we go to a lot of trouble to do research on them, and to make sure they are beautifully made. So when you see them, you also very “sayang” them, very “like” them. And that is done through the power of placement.

“The world is only now awakening to the power of placement. How you position your furniture, what you display in your home, the symbols you use, how you sit, how you work, all these things have a bearing on the outcome you want.”

Fabulous shopping for cures and enhancers! Great deals to be had!
The Gift of Gold counter at the World of Feng Shui shopping bazaar!

Lillian’s daughter Jennifer Too and nephew Lim Han Jin joined her to present the afternoon session on the Feng Shui Astrology. Here they shared the luck of the 12 animal signs for the coming year. The good news is that the year features a great number of Auspicious Stars – Big and Small Auspicious – and these must be enhanced!

The Monkey and Rooster have something very big coming to them in the next 12 months, and should keep a look out for new opportunities. The Wood animals of Tiger and Rabbit are very strong element-wise, and should make the most of their inner strength to get ahead this coming year. The Snake and Dragon share an Auspicious Star, and would do well working together. The Dog and Boar enjoy the Prosperity Star. The Rat has the support of the Tai Sui. The Horse needs to take care of its afflictions.

GENERAL OUTLOOK OF THE YEAR

This year’s Paht Chee chart features a balanced basket of elements with no missing elements. But there are excessive amounts of Earth, which indicates increased stress and worry. There are however strong indications that underlying the increased tension lies treasure to be tapped. Something good will come out of any period of worry, and relationships will sustain despite temporary strains.

Emerging new technologies will be the driving factor behind new sources of wealth and business.

The biggest concern in 2020 would be the emergence of toxic people who ride on negativity to gain popularity and fame, and this, if left unchecked, could lead to much infighting and quarrels. Thus there is a need to control the negative energies brought by the dominant hostile star and the quarrelsome star in the sector of the Rat, the animal sign of the year. Everyone should carry the Annual Amulet 2020 to reap the best of what the year has to offer.

For those looking to close deals and unlock the hidden wealth of the year, carry the Sum of Ten Amulet. This activates the unique combination of the dominant number with the dominant sign to bring Completion Luck.

GROWTH ENERGY

Fortunately, the Lap Chun, which falls on 4th February occurs after Chinese New Year, which falls on 25th January. This means that the Year of the Metal Rat starts the year with plenty of growth energy. This will help pull economies across the world out of recession, and from a micro viewpoint, this will also help the individual augment business and income luck. Rat years are always years when there is money to be made. Stay on the look-out for new opportunities; if your element luck is strong, you can turn prospects into wealth spectacularly.

Place the Wealth Tree with Mongoose and 6 Birds in the NW to activate big wealth and growth luck.

1 CLASHING PILLAR

While 3 of the pillars of the year’s Paht Chee chart are in harmony, the month pillar is not as harmonious, where Yang Earth sits on top of Yang Wood. This means that while we may see increased business, there may be a reduction in profit margin in the long term. Thus all businesses must place the Wealth Bull in their finance department. Or place on your work desk. This all-powerful bull bestows a very special kind of blessing that attracts wealth and helps you spot the big breaks.

NEW CALENDAR CYCLE

2020 marks the start of a new cycle. We go into a NEW AGE which will change the way business is done. It will also change the way we live our lives. We should open our minds and embrace the changes coming to ensure we stay on the forefront of an exciting new digital age.

For those thinking of changing jobs, the best months to do so are in between the first two quarters of the year – April till June.

WEALTH TO BE TAPPED

Both direct and indirect wealth energy is ample this year, with wealth originating from new innovations and strategies, much more so than from tried and tested methods. However, there could be a danger of not having sufficient resources. Place the Double Humped Camel in the Northwest of your office to protect your resources from being wasted, and to ensure you never run into cash flow problems.

With the right amount of determination, and proper planning, you can achieve previously unattained heights of success. It is the kind of year where there will be no shortage of lucrative opportunities.

This year especially benefits those born in the year of the Ox, Dragon, Snake, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster and Dog.

These animal signs all enjoy Big or Small Auspicious Stars, bringing unexpected wealth, windfall and opportunities.

TIMING IS IMPORTANT

The first half of the year is better for preparation and planning; the second half of the year is better for implementation of new directions.

What Lucky Colours Should I Wear in 2020?

NEW YEAR COLOURS & SYMBOLS

lucky colors 2020

To greet in the New Year, there are several colours and symbols that simply MUST be brought into the home, as these are the decorative enhancers that will ensure everything auspicious comes to you.

Red lanterns are one most easily identifiable as auspicious symbols of the New Year. Here, their colour red resonates with everyone as it is universally acknowledged as the most auspicious colour of the New Year. Thus red is always the principle colour used in restaurants and temples and on clothes worn by everyone to reflect the good energy it represents. For good luck, everyone wears red, or at least try to, during the first day of the Lunar New Year festivities.

chrysanthemum flower Yellow Chrysanthemums bring increasing luck during the New Year. This is the time of year when the colour yellow – the kind almost bordering on gold – brings auspicious increasing prosperity luck. The flower itself is also auspicious as it is usually filled with an abundance of petals. If there is an altar in your home, placing these yellow blooms as offerings to your Gods and Buddhas through the fifteen days of the Lunar New Year is very auspicious.

Kam Kuat Orange Plants bring the symbol of gold into the home and in 2020, these bushy plants studded with bright juicy Kam Kuats ensure that wealth luck gets attracted into the home. Place a pair of these plants flanking your door inside or outside your home. The orange colour here can be closer to red or yellow, but both colours are considered to be auspicious, especially during the first 15 days of the New Year.

gold on red calligraphyGold on Red Calligraphy done on plaques or on rice paper art in auspicious rhyming couplets with master brush strokes are also very welcome during the New Year. The gold ink is considered very special as this signifies the colour of accumulated wealth. When the calligraphy has a red background, it is more auspicious. The use of auspicious words has been popular in China for centuries. They may remind readers of the strongly worded single word affirmations, which in recent years have become very popular as well.

To the Chinese, the word Double Happiness or Hei “喜喜” is considered very powerful for attracting good marriage luck, but it should always have red in the background to infuse it with the needed yang chi to activate its energy.

pink and white blossomPink and White Blossoms to indicate the coming of spring. This is one of the most important and colourful of auspicious symbols, as it has multi-layers of lucky meanings. They are known by the Chinese as the Three Friends of Winter – Plum, Pine and Bamboo; together, they symbolize steadfastness, perseverance, and resilience. They continue to live through the cold winter months and as soon as spring comes, they send out glorious blooms that signifies the growth energy of the Springtime Wood element – all extremely auspicious as they welcome a bright new year filled with blossoming chi energy.

red packetsRed Packets filled with Money This is one of the most important rituals of the Lunar New Year. This is when money is placed inside an auspiciously designed red packet to be given to all children and unmarried relatives in the family who visit your home to wish you a prosperous new year. In the old days, it was deemed very auspicious for the recipient to receive a red money packet from the elder members of the family and from the boss, but it was considered equally auspicious for the older relative or boss when they give the red packet.

The amount placed inside the packet is not as important as the sentiments behind the giving. It is advisable to place an even-numbered amount inside the red packet and even more auspicious when meaningful words are printed in gold and the packet itself is a bright vermillion red. You can use any lucky symbol to decorate your lucky money packet, as long as the packet is red in colour.

Using any other colour is considered very unlucky, even when the year deems the other colour to be auspicious. Remember that during the Lunar New Year, use red as background colour and gold as secondary colour and you will have a fortunate year!

LUCKY COLOURS FOR 2020

The Chinese believe that colours resonate with particular frequencies that have different strengths and affinities from year to year. In Chinese metaphysics, there are five main colours which signify the five elements, the five planets and the five directions – North, South, East, West and Center. Different homes have different colour affinities, and different personalities vibrate better with certain colours in different years. This dynamic aspect of the use of colours to ensure good fortune is a fascinating study in itself, but for the purposes of the TUNG SING, what is needed is a basic knowledge of colour affinities plus their resonance in the Year of the Metal Rat 2020.

For 2020, the colour green is very auspicious, as this symbolizes the colour that strengthens the WINDHORSE of the year, thereby bringing strong success luck. For almost all the animal signs, the colour green will be very auspicious in 2020.

Note that the colour green signifies the season of spring and it stands for steady and healthy growth chi energy. This is very important, as the year of 2020 starts before the beginning of LAP CHUN, the first day of spring. Green is the colour of Wood and because Wood is the element of resource in 2020, green is also the colour of success. If you are unwell, sit by a window overlooking fields of green. There is nothing more therapeutic than this. Green also signifies action and wearing green makes one feel energized and action-oriented.

The lucky gemstone associated with green is the FEI CUI GREEN JADE, probably the most expensive of this beautiful translucent stone so loved by the Chinese. Green Jade brings great good fortune to those who wear it close to their bodies, especially when worn as hand bangles near the pulse point at the hand.

Do note that because green is so auspicious in 2020, it is extremely beneficial to wear jade in 2020.

The colour RED

For 2020, the colour red is lucky as it brings friendship and networking luck; and is neither a colour that is in excess nor is the year short of Fire. Note that red is the colour associated with the planet MARS.

While the colour red is universally acknowledged as a very important and auspicious colour, it is important not to overuse this colour. Thus while wearing red is very lucky indeed, painting the whole house red is quite another matter. When Fire energy becomes excessive, it can turn destructive.

Red is always favoured for the New Year, for weddings and for the celebration of happiness events such as the month-old celebration of a new-born baby and birthdays for patriarchs and matriarchs. During such events, the yang chi of the colour red gets activated, attracting good fortune!

Red is also the favourite colour of temples and restaurants, as it is believed to be the most powerful colour for attracting customers and clients. Again, one should not overdo the use of red even in these public places.

The colour YELLOW

yellow emperorIn 2020, the colour yellow represents intelligence and creativity. This is the colour of Earth which brings stability and patience; and makes one grounded and realistic. Because Earth is in excess this year, too much of this colour will cause excessive worrying and self-induced stress.

Yellow has always been a noble and high-class colour associated with the mandarins at court. The Chinese have always revered this colour, associating it with Imperial Authority, yellow being the colour of the Son of Heaven. Yellow is also the Emperor’s colour. It is also the colour of the Yellow River, which brings the much-needed water to the fields of rice and grain, and it is also the colour of the great nation China itself.

The colour WHITE

gold barWhite is the colour associated with the element Metal, which in 2020 is the element that signifies Wealth and Financial success. The other colours associated with the Metal element are silvery grey and gold. Both of these metallic colours represent money, so they are always regarded as auspicious. The metal planet is Venus.

The colour BLUE or BLACK

Both colours blue as well as black signify flowing water, which brings change and swift communication. The flow of news moves as fast as the waters that flow down the great rivers of the world. Wearing black or blue in 2020 strengthens recognition and promotion luck!

Black is not the evil colour many suppose it to be. It is also not a mourning colour. Nevertheless, it is not favoured during festivities and celebration occasions. Do avoid wearing black to someone’s wedding or birthday dinner, as it is simply not a nice thing to do. This is not because black brings bad luck. It is because the colour black is associated with the dark wandering spirits of the night.

When you enter a celebration occasion in black, the fear is that the wandering spirits are able to merge with you and enter to spoil the occasion. In Chinese, we call this causing the colour black to clash with someone in the dinner whose Spirit Essence is low. This can be the host or the host’s parents.

Blue is less of a danger, although many Chinese associate this colour with losing, and failure. Light blue however does not have the same connotations as black or a darker blue. If you need to enhance the Water element therefore, and need to wear blue, it is a good idea to wear lighter shades such as sky blue or the colour of aquamarine.

two colours combination for clothes

TWO COLOUR COMBINATIONS

There are several dimensions to the effect which colour combinations have on one’s luck. The first has to do with the combination of planetary forces, while the second has to do with the combination of elements. In many instances, two colours tend to make a stronger statement and have a stronger good luck effect than just wearing either separately as a single colour.

The LUCKY COMBINATIONS

GREEN & BLACK is a very lucky combination, as black Water replenishes the fast-growing green Wood. Here, the Wood of our earth is being nourished, causing it to generate great good fortune and life-giving energies. This combination is always auspicious. The meaning generated here is one of good health and continuous victory.

This is an excellent combination for 2020. You can use it for your corporate logo, your posters and your calling cards, as the hidden message of this combination is excellent.

GREEN & RED is likewise a favourable combination, as the hidden meaning generated with these two colours side by side is indicative of having ample resources to fuel your wishes and improves success. Here, the green of Wood is being used in a clever way, but it is the bright brilliance of the Fire element that will bring success luck. In 2020, this is a good combination that brings mentors and helpful people.

RED & YELLOW is a stable combination that brings good activity, favourable results and harmonious effects. Anyone wishing to work as a team and to foster goodwill between team players will benefit from this combination. So if you are looking for a good colour scheme for your sports team, this can be a winning combination.

YELLOW & WHITE is an excellent colour combination. This denotes the creation of wealth, the successful transformation of resources into a sustainable business and the making of good profits. But this is not favoured for flags and corporate logos, as here, the elements indicated are Earth producing Metal. These are elements best used in a grounding capacity. Thus they are great for house or office décor colours e.g. the combination of white walls with yellow highlights or light cream yellow walls with metal of any kind.

BLACK & WHITE is a good productive-type combination. Here, the Water element of black, which signifies wealth luck, is produced by the Metal white, which also signifies the creation of sustainable prosperity. This is thus a wealth-creating combination. It is excellent for sports teams and corporate logos. Black and white also signifies the unity of yin and yang.

YELLOW, WHITE & BLUE brings wealth. This is an excellent combination for those doing business or commerce. You can use gold instead of yellow, and black instead of blue, to achieve the same effect. The elements at work here are Earth producing Metal producing Water. Very auspicious.

RED, YELLOW & WHITE creates harmony and peace. The elements here are Fire producing Earth producing Metal, so ultimately, this is combination of three colours that also brings wealth. More importantly, it brings stability and harmony.

BLUE, GREEN & RED brings success, fame and recognition. This is an excellent combination for those wanting to climb the career ladder, as it is a success-bringing combination of colours. Here, the elements are Water producing Wood producing Fire. You can substitute black for blue, and brown for green as well.

The UNLUCKY COMBINATIONS

GREEN & YELLOW connects Wood with Earth element, which is a single-sided combination. Here the dominant colour is green, which soaks up everything the Earth element of yellow has to offer. The green colour in this combination causes yellow to lose its lustre and brilliance, causing the light to get dimmed and resources to be reduced.

This is not a good colour combination when two separate colours green and yellow are placed next to each other. But when the colours are mingled and mixed to create a lighter less green shade of green, the effect is neutral and may even be lucky.

WHITE & GREEN is definitely not lucky. Here the elements are clashing in a destructive way, with growth energy halted. The combination thus brings disaster and even violence. Metal destroys the energy of Wood and can also decrease immunity to illness. Only in exceptional cases would such a combination be beneficial, but that too only intermittently. It is safer to avoid it. If you want to use this combination, it is advisable to increase the green and reduce the white.

RED & WHITE is likewise a combination that denotes war, as the Fire of red devours the Metal of white. This combination is not recommended unless the white is so prominent as to render the red harmless.

BLACK & RED signifies the presence of Fire and Water, two opposing elements with black destroying red. This makes this combination potentially dangerous to the power of red, and in fact, the two elements represented become aggressive when paired together. Better to avoid this combination as it only brings discord and problems even though it may initially bring good results. Ultimately, this combination does not lead to sustainable good fortune.

A relation of the red/black combination is the red/blue combination which when mixed, creates the colour purple. This is a special colour which has a special meaning to the Chinese, as purple is the ultimate colour of perfection. It is also the colour of heaven, and when combined with yellow, becomes a combination denoting the harmonious and very auspicious union of heaven and earth.

YELLOW & BLACK represent the elements of Earth with Water – a destructive combination. The insects and animal worlds are full of poisonous examples of this combination and they signify danger to humans. Stinging insects and bees, tigers and other reptiles carry this colour combination. The yellow and black combination can also be seen on many road signs as warning signs of danger. But as a protective colour scheme, this is an excellent combination, as it creates a natural shield against those who would do you harm. Hence the popularity of Tiger amulets!

The God that rules all matters related to happenings on Earth is the TAI SUI. He is also known as the GRAND DUKE JUPITER as his location on the compass follows the path of Jupiter. Each year, an important feng shui ritual is to pay respects to the Tai Sui. Note that the Tai Sui changes every year and there are 60 Tai Suis in all.

The best way to honour the Tai Sui is by displaying the Tai Sui Plaque with the image and amulet of the year’s Tai Sui in his location.

In 2020, the Tai Sui resides in the sector of the Rat, the NORTH. When arranging one’s living and work space, it is also important to ensure one never confronts the Tai Sui – so in 2020, you MUST NOT face NORTH, EVEN if North is a lucky direction for you according to your Kua number.

To benefit from Tai Sui’s support, you can also carry the Tai Sui Amulet. For 2020, this amulet is especially needed for those born in years of the Rat, Horse, Rooster and Rabbit.

These four signs must take special care to have a beneficial relationship with the Tai Sui of the year. The Horse is the most afflicted and must carry the Tai Sui Amulet at all times. The Rooster and Rabbit suffer from side conflicts with the Tai Sui. The Rat enjoys the support of the Tai Sui and thus must honour him.

Indirectly conflicts the Rooster & Rabbit

General Lu Mi was born in the Kunshan City and lived during the Ming Dynasty. While governing the city, they had some natural disasters, which caused many deaths and much destruction to the land. There were many abandoned farms causing famine throughout the province. As a result, there was widespread poverty. General Lu Mi was given the task of rebuilding the province.

As was general practice during that Period, the Emperor would ask for people to be drafted into the army service from all provinces from time to time. However, as Lu Mi’s province was so badly affected by natural disasters, his province did not provide the men as required. General Lu Mi wanted the farms to be rejuvenated and the population to increase again before sending more men to the Emperor and to war.

As Kunshan City failed to provide men for several years, the Emperor sent a letter demanding for people to be drafted into the army. General Lu Mi thus sent news to his people asking them to volunteer. However, only a few came, and they were mostly old bureaucrats and old service men, leaving him unable to fulfil the requirements of the royal decree.

When the Emperor heard this, he was furious and got other local officials to conscript more people into the army. As the province had a history of providing many people, the local officials were afraid and were devising a plan to capture people to force them to join the army. As a result, many of the people scattered and went into hiding.

Lu Mi then went to see the Emperor with the few people he had. He said the Emperor, “These are the only people I can offer. If you forcibly take them, the people will go into hiding and I will not have anyone to govern.” He then offered himself to the Emperor in place of the people. However, the Emperor rejected his offer and insisted he conscript the men. He then dismissed Lu Mi. But Lu Mi stayed on and refused to leave. The Emperor tried to change his mind using all sorts of methods. Lu Mi stood firm on his decision. Eventually, the Emperor gave in and did not conscript the people. Lu Mi then went back to his province.

Several years later, General Lu Mi passed away. As his family was very poor, they did not have money to give him a funeral. The government stepped in to give him a state burial. During the funeral, there were heavy thunderstorms, but all the officials and people that attended the funeral stayed to finish the rituals and prayers required so that his spirit would have a safe passage into heaven.

Due to the devotion he had for his people, the Jade Emperor elevated him to become one of the deities of the Tai Sui, and the descendants of the people from his province still pray to him till this day.

Effects of the Tai Sui in 2020

Tai Sui Amulet and Tai Sui Plaque for 2020

In 2020, having General Lu Mi as Tai Sui represents a year of growth and rebuilding after natural disasters occurring in previous years. Having the rule and influence of this Tai Sui indicates it will be a good year for businesses to recuperate from losses. His influence on the year suggests that there will always be people standing up for what is morally correct, and those with the courage to stand up for those too weak to defend themselves. Compassion will prevail in 2020.

Displaying the Tai Sui Plaque in his location of North within your home ensures you come under his protection; his support will help you get treated fairly in all your dealings, whatever the circumstance. Having his goodwill invokes protection against the law, the authorities and people of a higher rank than you. It ensures you get treated fairly.

Displaying Tai Sui Plaque with his amulet is advantageous for everyone, irrespective of your animal sign. Doing so brings good fortune as the Tai Sui has the power also to help those whose feng shui may not be perfect. It is thus beneficial for every household to display 2020’s Tai Sui Plaque in the home. You can also carry the Tai Sui Amulet 2020 to stay under his protection at all times. It helps ensure you do not get attacked, cheated or betrayed, and that you do not meet up with unfortunate company and influences.
