Today marked the end of an era with the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II. She was the world’s longest serving monarch and head of state, dedicating her life to serving her people from the time she ascended the throne 70 years ago in 1952, when she was just 26 years old. Born in 1926, her passing at the grand age of 96, according to the traditional Chinese calendar system, puts her at 99 years – as 3 more years are added to one’s age, one for heaven, one for earth and one for mankind. The Double Nine is the most auspicious number, as it is “completion doubled”.

To the Chinese, everything auspicious is depicted in doubles, hence the Double Fish, the Double Dragon and also, the Double Nine. In numerology, 9 is considered the magic number as it is the only number that constantly reduces back to itself, no matter how many times it is multiplied. It is thus also often thought of as the number of infinity. That Queen Elizabeth’s passing was marked by this incredible Double Rainbow, which stretched over Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Balmoral and the whole of the City of London, is definitely significant. In Tibetan Buddhist belief, the rainbow phenomenon is seen whenever a high Tibetan Lama passes away. It also appears when the reincarnation of a highly realised being is born.

This must be indisputable substantiation of Queen Elizabeth’s heavenly mandate to lead, and also a wonderful symbol of hope and optimism for Great Britain, for the 54 Nations of the Commonwealth, and for the world. Something needed in some tough times.

Today is also the 9th of September – 9.9 – another double 9. It can’t be coincidence.

Thousands of well wishes gathered outside Balmoral, Windsor and Buckingham Palace to pay their tributes, made up of both tourists and Britons, demonstrating just how loved she was to all the world.

Here in Malaysia, we woke to the sad news that the world has come to the end of an era, but with confidence her amazing legacy will endure. With her reign spanning 7 decades, she has inspired people of all ages, her popularity as potent among the older generation as with the youth and younger set, with her readiness to participate in skits like the one with Paddington Bear at her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations earlier this year, and TV shows like The Crown unmasking the human side of this Monarch.

Her son Charles III is now King.

Said King Charles III in his statement, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”

God save the Queen, and long live the King.
