The latest research indicates that well over 70 percent of our communication is done nonverbally. In fact, behavioral scientists now know that the body speaks a language far louder than words.

When words do not match what the body is saying, better to rely on the body as that is a far more accurate reflection of feelings, attitudes and intentions. Here are some pointers on how to “listen with your eyes” and how to send out auspicious signals to attract good energy and good people, into your life.

If you want to make a good first impression, use luck-bringing body language! In addition to smiling and making good eye contact, show the palms of your hands as this is an inviting gesture. Keep your arms unfolded as this welcomes the chi in. Keep your legs uncrossed and your body leaning slightly forward. These are welcoming signals that send out a positive message. Don’t forget to show a hint of a smile!

Next, create instant rapport and goodwill from the other party by subtly “matching and mirroring” the other person’s facial expressions and body gestures. This seemingly unconscious mimicry of the other person will be sending strong positive signals and subconsciously telling him/her that you like and agree with what they are saying. This is sure to immediately create a harmony of chi energy.

The next time someone introduces you to a “new” friend, see if he/she crosses his or her arms – this is a sign that tells you the other person is unsure of you. You can then also subtly cross your arms to mirror the gesture. When someone unconsciously matches your body gestures, it is always an indication that things are going well between you. It indicates you have developed some trust and goodwill. Conversely, if you notice  they are mismatching your body gestures, you know that trust has not yet been established.

These gestures are body language basics. You can observe them anywhere although they emerge most often when strangers come together in a social occasion such as cocktail parties, event launches, seminars, conferences and dinner parties. They also appear when one party is trying to ‘sell’ something to the other party. Insurance sales people for example are usually very good at sending out and reading body signals, as many of them have undergone some kind of training in body language.

The next time you attend a social event, observe how people who are strangers to one another will subconsciously try to match each other’s body gestures. When people are at the ‘making friends’ stage, they tend to mirror each other’s gestures in a subconscious effort to reach out.

After a while however, disagreements could start to surface, especially if they are engaged in serious conversation. When that happens, the disagreeing parties will subconsciously start to mismatch body gestures, each doing exactly the opposite of what the other person is doing.

When disagreement gets stronger, that’s when the more aggressive body signals make an appearance. The aggressive party could take a step forward or legs will get crossed; arms will also get crossed in a gesture of symbolic protection and both sides could start looking elsewhere. There are many hostile hand signals that are both unconscious yet obvious in their meaning. Smiles disappear and eyes tend to become unfocused. Mouths droop and hands come up in a “pushing away” gesture. Often, distracting gestures start to surface as one party begins to lose interest.

Hand gestures such as touching the ear, eyes or back of the head are sure signs that disinterest has set in. Sometimes hostility can escalate into more aggressive signals such as jutting the chest forward or clenching the fists, but more often than not, disagreements will give rise to boredom and disinterest. A turning away of the face or shrugging of the shoulders usually precedes a person moving away.

In the language of love, body language comes into its own. These days, especially when many people are becoming more forthcoming in their interaction with each other, potential lovers are a lot less subtle than they used to be.

In the old days, subtlety ruled over boldness, but that was because in those days, being coy was more highly valued than being aggressive, especially in young, eligible ladies. In those days, predatory females were a rare breed. Today, they are everywhere. The bold and the beautiful outnumber the sweet and shy. Amongst guys, the trend towards directness is even more pronounced. As a result, body language has now become a big part of the mating game.

As a result of the subtle but potent difference in men and women’s perception of the mating game, men are not very good at reading a woman’s body language. Women do not always have sex on their minds whereas men almost always do. So to help them decipher signals sent their way by the opposite sex, here are some common “love” signals sent out by women when they encounter a love prospect:

Eager Eyes

Eye contact is one of the most revealing signs of interest. Interested eyes are keen, smouldering and hungry often. When someone catches a woman’s interest, she will usually raise her eyebrows, widen her eyes and look just a bit longer than usual. If a woman is interested, she will hold that look just long enough for the guy to notice. If she gets a response, she will immediately lean slightly forward and smile to herself. Here the signal being sent is YES. When a guy uses the same Eager Eyes approach, the lady will immediately turn away if she is disinterested. If she is keen she will find ways to send an affirmative signal back. When the signal sent back involves a sexual gesture such as a wetting of her lips, a slight shift in her sitting posture such that her hemline becomes a little more revealing, then sex is not far from her mind. Or watch the way she dresses. If she is in something revealing, it is obvious she is aware of her body. If she is wearing something with sleeves and collars, the guy can look forward to a period of time before he can make any sexual moves on the lady.

The Upward Leaning Jaw

As soon as a guy strikes up a conversation with a woman, the position of her head and face will immediately reveal whether or not there is any interest in the guy or his conversation. Usually she digs your bait if she tilts her head to one side and raises her lower jaw toward you. The upward leaning jaw is a very positive gesture as it strongly indicates she is paying attention to what the guy is saying. If you are the girl and someone is making the big moves on you, you can get him to slow down by lightly placing some space between you, or gently put both hands in front of you. Do not cross your hands as this will send a negative signal. You are interested but want to send him a signal not to move too fast. If you are the guy in this situation you can also move a little away from her, but keep your arms open to send a signal that you are very interested but will let her call the shots on timing.

Hips Don’t Lie

When a man and a woman are talking in a crowded room and they are checking out each other, watch their hips as they chat, especially when there are other distractions in the room such as other people, music or a television playing. Many pick-up places have plenty of distractions. So when two find each other, it is easy to tell after the first five minutes if the two are mutually attracted to each other.

When the girl turns, and only her head turns each time the guy says something, this is not a good sign. If she is interested, her whole body pivots towards the guy and her hips will face him to strongly indicate that her focus is on him instead of on other people in the room. It is the same with guys. When you chat with a man in a crowded room and he does not turn his hips towards you, he is definitely not interested.

Laughing at Your Silly Jokes

It is said that one of the surest signs of attraction is when a girl laughs out loud, shows her teeth and throws her head back. This is interpreted as very serious attraction, especially if the jokes are limp with non-humour. If each time she laughs she throws her head back directly in front of the guy, it means she will not resist the big moves being made on her.

As a mother and a wife, my heart goes out to those who write in to ask advice on what to do when a marriage goes sour. Words cannot adequately describe the helpless pain couples endure when they feel they can no longer carry on as husband and wife. The situation becomes complicated when there are children involved. Love that was once upon a time their source of bliss and joy has transformed into feelings of hurt and unhappiness. How did this happen and can feng shui help?

From what we have observed over many years, it seems feng shui does affect the state of marriages and domestic harmony.

The sector of the house that most affects the quality of relationships within a marriage is the SOUTHWEST. The Southwest governs marriage and happiness. If you are married or wish to find a husband/wife, you must safeguard the Southwest which is ruled by the Trigram KUN. This represents the ultimate MOTHER energy that nurtures family and builds happiness in the HOME. When this is afflicted, for instance if a bathroom is located there, matriarchal energy weakens causing the bonds of marriage and family to degenerate. When it is missing, the foundation of mother energy is totally non-existent and marriage gets into serious trouble or breaks down altogether.

I want to share a couple of true stories of how the SOUTHWEST corner made a real difference to the marriages of real people. They are my personal friends so I have changed their names to protect their privacy.

BEWARE the AFFLICTED SOUTHWEST!

Here is a true story of a couple I know and how an afflicted Southwest affected their lives.

Carol and John were the first couple in their social group to marry. He was besotted with her from their first date, and they married after 3 years of romantic courtship. When I met them they had been been married for 8 years. They had two lovely children together. Three years ago, John left his cellphone at home and it beeped. Carol picked it up and realised it was a text message from a young girl in John’s recreational sports class. Out of curiosity she read the message. To her disgust and horror, she realised that John was cheating on her. When John came home that evening, she confronted him. He confessed everything and moved out of the house the next morning.

When I first met them eight years ago, it became quite obvious that their marriage was already going through a rough patch. Carol asked me to evaluate the feng shui of her house and I agreed. The first thing that came to my attention was that her SOUTHWEST was occupied by a bathroom. Not only that, their bed was directly facing a closet which had floor-to-ceiling sliding door mirrors. I advised Carol to remove the mirrors immediately as this would cause a third party to enter into their marriage. I also recommended that she renovate the house and move the bathroom elsewhere. This of course was quite difficult for Carol. While she appreciated my advice she did not take it seriously enough to carry out any of my suggestions.

Perhaps I should have insisted then, but it is now too late. After trying for a year to get their marriage back on track, John cheated on her again. Carol and John are divorced. John has found a new woman to marry and Carol is still single.

THE SOUTHWEST GOVERNS MARITAL PROSPECTS

The Southwest not only governs marital happiness, it also determines marital prospects. Here is another true story of how my beautiful single friend found love after saving her SOUTHWEST corner.

They were both so happy and things were looking up! Lucy’s house had excellent feng shui and they lived there until their first child was born. A year later, Lucy and James decided to upgrade into a larger house; his business was going well and money was pouring in. This time, Lucy had completely forgotten about feng shui and moved straight into this big new house that had been abandoned and unsold for 8 months!

When they invited me over for their house warming, I was quite sad to discover that the Southwest of their home was their en-suite bathroom. Not only that, the head of their bed shared the same wall with the en-suite bathroom and their living room was missing the Southwest corner. I advised Lucy to remedy this with renovation as soon as possible, but this fell on deaf ears. Two years and a second child later, Lucy and James are headed for the divorce courts. James wants out of the marriage. They are selling their big house, and James is suing for custody of their children.

So what do you do when your marriage is in trouble?

Sometimes it can be too late. However, for those who are lucky enough to do something early, there is good news. Here is a heart-melting tale of how two of my good friends got back together after injecting a hearty dose of good feng shui into their marriage.

When Jenny told me, I was just as surprised! By that time, Rob had already moved out temporarily and she was getting desperate. We checked her feng shui to see what’s changed. Her Southwest corner did not have a bathroom, but last year, the loss-causing Number 5 star had flown into the SOUTHWEST! The Quarrelsome Number 3 star had flown into their bedroom, triggering quarrels and bickering! Not only that, we noticed that none of her family photos in her home or in Facebook featured Rob in them. Her tiny little wedding photo on her sideboard had gathered a layer of dust and it would seem as though Rob had faded away from her family life altogether. So I suggested…

1. Placing an Amethyst Geode under the Bed
   This is a Taoist feng shui remedy which requires the woman to obtain a raw Amethyst Geode, and tie it to the foot of the bed with red string. It should be placed under the WOMAN’s side of the bed. The Woman should always SLEEP on the right hand side of her husband, so the crystal should be placed under the Right side of the bed. This strengthens the Matriarchal energy of the Mother and Wife of the household.
2. Displaying A LARGE HAPPY Family Photo
   Rob had already moved into their holiday house, so I advised her to blow up a LARGE HAPPY family photo with all their smiling faces, and display it prominently in both their holiday house as well as their city home. She did exactly this and made sure that it was hung in the Southwest of her dining room of her holiday house – where Rob could see it every day. She replaced all her Facebook profile photos and put up photos of their happy days together.
3. Praying to TARA for Help
   Whenever you are in any trouble at all or feel any great fear, chanting TARA’s mantra with faith will always bring helpful solutions. Jenny’s fear of losing her husband and her perfect family life was causing her to slip into depression. I offered her Tara’s simple 10 syllable mantra and suggested she chant “OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA” 108 times a day. Jenny chanted TARA’s Mantra daily and wrote to me saying that felt a renewed sense of hope and fearlessness, and realised that no matter what happens she could get through it.
4. The Power of the LOVE and REGRET
   Whenever Jenny and Rob attempted to resolve their differences by talking, it would always begin with the best of intentions and end up with a big quarrel. She wanted so badly to tell him how much she loved him, but she could never give voice to it when they spoke. I suggested that perhaps writing a letter would work better but asked her to make sure there was nothing negative in it and it must only contain pure love. So she did! Jenny wrote Rob a powerful love letter, telling him 10 things she loved about him and her marriage. As she wrote it all down, she realised how much they had hurt each other over the years – and regretted all the hurtful actions and things she had said. She made a heartfelt wish for forgiveness and forgave him for everything – and wished with all her heart that he would return and be happy again. This was truly a powerful form of purification – by regretting all her own actions, she purified all the negativity that was caused by her in the marriage. And through her offer of pure love and forgiveness, she could overcome obstacles of their marriage and create the cause for their happiness to resurface.
5. Like magic, Rob returned home two weeks later. Rob was so touched by her letter that he cried after he read it. He regretted all the negative things he had said and felt happy to be home with his loving family. Jenny wrote to me three weeks later to tell me that they were back together and making holiday and future plans like a family again. It was like as though it was all a bad dream.

Finding someone to marry used to be so much simpler. There was a time (not that long ago) where you’d simply reach a marriageable age and your parents would arrange for the village matchmaker to pay a visit. These days, match-making has gone out of fashion and the priorities of young adults have completely changed. All around the world, we see the rate of marriage plummeting as the new generation of adults choose to focus on career building rather than starting a family.

I have a bachelor friend – in his 30s, really handsome, mega-successful and truly one of the loveliest people I know. But he has been trying to get hitched for the past four years without any joy. It is not that he has problems attracting beautiful ladies into his life – in fact, I can promise you that’s the least of his problems. But his dilemma is that he just cannot seem to find the right one – that very special someone he could imagine spending eternity with. Commitment issues? Perhaps. But hang on a minute – the guy has already made two proposals in the last two years, both of which fell apart within six months. He says to me “I really want to settle down. And I want children.” So no, commitment isn’t the issue here, but perhaps there is something really wrong with his feng shui!

So we checked the feng shui of his house and sure enough, we have detected the culprit. Right now he is living in a house with a missing SOUTHWEST corner. We advised him to move out and he has taken our recommendation very seriously. My dear friend has found a new house to move into, and he has asked us for some feng shui tips on furniture placement. So here is our educated opinion and we are pretty confident it is going to help him. This method uses the EAST-WEST theory of feng shui – and anyone can apply this method regardless of whatever flying stars are in your home.

WORKING OUT THE EAST-WEST CHART OF THE HOUSE

We visited his potential new home and determined that it faces the direction of SOUTHWEST. This alone is a fantastic sign, as Southwest is also the universal direction of Marriage. With his main door facing this direction, it will bring him plenty of potentially suitable brides, and prospects for a lasting union will be high. Once you know the facing direction of the home, you can then match it with the correct EAST-WEST chart*. Under the East West Theory of feng shui, a Southwest-facing house takes on the energy distribution as shown here in this chart. You can see that the Southwest sector of this home (where the door is located) brings Success Luck for the occupants of this house, and the Romance corner is located in the West. A home where the Romance corner is afflicted can also cause marriage problems to arise. By “afflicted” we mean that a bathroom occupies this sector. If the West corner of this home is missing, it would also be a problem for my friend – especially since his priority right now is to get married!

ANALYSING THE SOUTHWEST CHART FOR THE HOME

Here is the floor plan of his new home. If we superimpose the SOUTHWEST chart onto this layout, we can see that the WEST location is occupied by the “Mail Room”. This is excellent, because it means that the house does not have an afflicted West. In fact, should he convert the Mail Room into a Home Office, and spend time working here, there is a very good chance he would meet someone suitable to marry through his work. Under the East-West theory of houses, the Romance corner becomes activated by the presence of Earth energy. Thus for him, we recommend placing a large Crystal Ball in the West corner of every room in the house – and this is indicated by the red stars on both the floor plans here. Ideally, the crystal ball should contain gold flakes inside, as GOLD is the best enhancer for marriage and happiness luck. This is the reason why Chinese parents often gift their newlywed children the gift of GOLD, as gold brings happiness in marriage.

SLEEPING AND FACING THE RIGHT DIRECTION

We also advised our friend to arrange all his furniture in accordance with his personal Kua number so that he may tap his personal Love direction while dining, working, sleeping and watching TV. Under the East/West theory of feng shui, he belongs to the West Group, and his Kua number is 2*. His personal Love direction is therefore the Northwest, which means that for him personally, facing the Northwest direction brings him the luck of Love and Romance. Here we should also check that the Northwest is not afflicted in any way, as this would definitely create obstacles for his love life. The Northwest of this home is occupied by the staircase, and thus again is not afflicted.

So you see, in feng shui, marriage luck can be blocked if any of the three locations of marriage are afflicted:

1. The universal location of Marriage in the Southwest.
2. The Marriage corner based on the House’s facing direction.
3. The Personal Marriage corner based on the individual’s KUA number.

In this case, my friend is finally in luck! This house meets the criteria for all three, as none of the marriage corners are afflicted. And so by living in this house, his chances of securing a happy marriage are very high indeed.

So here on this floor plan we have indicated all his LOVE facing directions with a red arrow in the living room and dining room. He should arrange his sofa, TV and study desks in order to sit facing Northwest. Inside his bedroom (see floor plan) he should also sleep with his head pointed towards the direction of Northwest. As you can see, the East/West method is truly very easy to put to practice, and its effects are incredibly potent. We look forward to receiving an invitation to the wedding of our dear friend very soon.
