BUDDHA TREASURES

Q

A few years ago, my parents found a box full of Buddhas of all kinds (green ones, black ones, white ones, red ones, 2 medium-sized Buddhas with children, and a big gold laughing Buddha). They don’t know anything about feng shui, so they just put them everywhere in their house, even in the bathroom and the car. I want to know if this finding means anything, and where it is best to put them to bring luck and wealth.

A

You should rejoice at this development. It is like finding treasure. It means the Buddhas wanted to be found, so you should view their re-emergence from the box where they were sleeping as most auspicious. The best place to display your Buddhas are directly facing your front door, or in the living or dining room. Avoid putting them in the bathroom, as this is very inauspicious. It is also not advisable to display them in the bedroom where it is considered disrespectful.

WHAT IS YIN WATER?

QIt is recommended to use “yin water” to control the unlucky #7 star. What are the examples of “yin water”? Lillian Too gives lots of examples of “yang water” – swimming pool, bubbling water with plant/fish, waterfalls – in her book Flying Star Feng Shui for Period 8, but not much is mentioned about yin water. Please advise.

A

Yin is the opposite of yang. Yin is quiet, while yang is noisy. Yin is still, yang is active. Usually when feng shui cures are recommended, the logic behind the cure lies within the theory of the five elements and the productive, destructive and exhaustive cycles. The #7 star is a violent star that brings burglary and loss. Because it is a metal star, the best element cure is water, which exhausts metal.

However, yin water is recommended because yang water is so lively it may trigger off the negative effects of the star. Whenever you have an afflicted space, you should try not to activate it. You should keep it quiet and place a cure that suppresses its energy. Lucky sectors on the other hand should be activated with movement, light and sound. So if you want to use a water feature to activate say the lucky #1 star, you should use YANG water. But if you want to control the #7 star with water, you use YIN water.

Yin water is a body of water contained in an urn that is still (not moving) and without life. Remember to change it regularly to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

DREAMS BRINGING OPPOSITE MEANING?

QI have a couple of things bugging me lately and I hope you can enlighten me. Firstly, I keep having this twitch in the area of my left eyelid. Secondly, I recently dreamt of a newborn baby. I am quite worried about this dream as I have heard that the opposite of your dream usually comes true, e.g. if you dream of birth it means death and if you dream of a coffin it is good? Please help.

A

The Chinese believe that when your left eye twitches it is a warning for your spouse to be careful but according to the Tung Shu, it is a good omen when the left eye twitches and a bad omen when the right eye twitches. The Tung Shu also says that the time of day when the twitch occurs add further meaning to the twitch. However, if your eye constantly twitches, it could just be due to tiredness or stress. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

As for your dream, dreaming of a newborn baby certainly does NOT mean death! It is the start point of a new cycle. When you dream of death, it marks the end of a cycle, and usually indicates that something is about to change. And similarly when you dream of a newborn baby, it marks a new beginning – something new is coming in to your life. Don’t t get worked up over your dream. If anything, its prediction is positive. If you want children or you are expecting a child, it could also be your subconscious working itself into the dream. Rejoice! Dreaming of babies is always a good omen!

IS A TURQUOISE ROOF CONSIDERED BLUE?

QI have been offered a government terrace house with a turquoise roof. But most people call it blue. Is turquoise considered blue? If it is, how do I remedy this affliction, as we know that staying in a house with a blue roof is no good?

A

A blue roof signifies “water on top”, and water above always spells danger. Unfortunately, turquoise IS considered blue, so I would advise against moving in to the house you speak of unless you can change the roof colour.

MEANING OF SELF ELEMENT

QUsing the four pillars on WOFS.com, I discovered my self-element is metal. And through the Nov/Dec 04 issue of FSW, I realised my element is weak metal. What does that mean?

AYour four pillars chart describes a basket of elements that make up your life destiny, and the configuration of these five elements contributes to your general luck and how your life pans out through the years. Your self-element is the heavenly stem of your DAY pillar. If you are a “weak metal” person, you need to strengthen yourself in order to enjoy good luck. As a weak metal person, you need the element that strengthens you, which is earth, as earth produces metal in the cycle of elements.

Crystals and boulders belong to earth element. Display natural crystals in the metal sectors of your home (NW and West) to help your personal chi strength. Wearing crystals and gemstones is also lucky for you. You can also look for “hidden” elements. These might be able to help you. For a more in-depth explanation on Four Pillars, we recommend Lillian Too’s latest book Eight Characters – Chinese Personal Forecasting, which makes it very easy for you to delve a great deal deeper into your life destiny.

WHERE TO HANG PAINTINGS?

QI recently bought two paintings to enhance the overall luck of my family. However, I am not sure on which walls of the living room to hang the paintings. I am living with my parents. The house is sitting West facing East. The first painting is of nine carp swimming towards the same point (forming a circle) and the other is of peonies.

ACongratulations on your recent purchases! It is wonderful to be able to decorate the home with beautiful works of art, but at the same time, it is important that the art you hang suggest things that are positive, happy and abundant. Both your paintings are of subjects that connote auspiciousness, so will hopefully bring much good fortune energy into your home. Fish are always associated with water, so can be hung in the North, East or Southeast. Peonies can be hung in the Southwest or West to bring romance luck for the daughters of the family.

FU DOGS IN HIGHRISE APARTMENT

QI was motivated by the article on Fu Dogs in the July/August 2005 issue and decided to get a pair of miniature lions (approximate 10cm). I stay in a high-rise apartment (23rd floor). May I ask whether it is OK to place them at the entrance of my main door, as I’m not staying on land?

A

It is absolutely fine for you to place the lions at the entrance to your apartment. However, as you mention they are only 10cm, which seems a bit small for your main door, it is better to place them on pedestals or stands on either side of the door. But miniature fu dogs / lions are best used to guard windows. Perhaps consider getting a larger pair to guard your main door, and use your miniature pair to guard one of the windows of your apartment instead? This way, you protect negative energy coming not just from your front door but also from other directions. This is important, since up in a high-rise apartment, you are more “exposed” to the elements than on landed property.

L-SHAPED FURNITURE

QI read that L-shaped furniture is not good. However, I just bought an L-shaped sofa set three weeks ago. What should I do? I wonder if it is advisable to buy another ottoman to place at the other side? Please advise.

AL-shaped furniture, just like L-shaped rooms, are not ideal simply because they suggest imbalance. Symbolically, the L-shape also looks like a meat cleaver, which brings bad luck that manifest as violence or bad temper. But the solution is simple. Your L-shaped sofa is fine if you balance it out by placing another piece like an ottoman so the layout of the sofa set forms a rectangle, thus becoming a regular shape.
