Work at creating channels for the inner spirituality within you to flow outwards. This will add to your charisma and make you a lot more attractive. It will also give your spoken words enhanced power. The special energy unleashed will also work at dispelling all negativities.

1. Engage your inner spiritual power and tune in mentally

Meditate daily to gain inner awareness. Close your eyes to shut out distractions, breathe normally, stay relaxed and then direct your mind to go deep inside yourself. Do this for a few moments each day until you become familiar with the exercise. It will soon help you rest your mind, increase your clarity of thinking, and open the inner depths of your own thought processes to you.

2. Unlock inner wisdom with pure motivation

Set yourself simple goals and establish the correct motivation for becoming spiritual. It must pure and devoid of hidden negative agenda. The key to using mental power is to be able to establish and maintain this purity, so always check your motives before you begin.

3. Think rich! Discard poverty programming

You must guard strongly against poverty programming. Stop worrying about a rainy day. People who are generous are programming themselves for a life of prosperity. Don’t let simple things such as saving money on electricity take over your life. The more relaxed you are about money, and everything that is connected with spending, the more likely you are to make your finances grow. Feng shui to attract wealth rarely works well for stingy people with closed minds. It works beautifully for people who are expansive and generous. Adjust your attitudes as well as your motivations.

4. Visualize and actualize – accessing your inner subconscious

Using mental visualizations to bring power to your intentions lies in using the mind to create pictures that have a canny way of becoming reality. Think of all the outcomes you are wishing for as you feng shui the rooms of your home. It is this visualization that will cause you to actualize all your wishes into reality.

5. Clear your inner channels of energy

Spend ten minutes each day mentally going through the rooms of your house in which you live and spend time. Meditate on your space and imagine a gust of fresh air sweeping away the cobwebs and the clutter that tends to stick in the mind after a hard day’s work. Try to create a situation in which you actually feel a gush of fresh cold air so that you can recreate its refreshing feeling in your mind.

6. Stimulate the mind to dream

Encourage your subconscious mind to dream and to retain the memories of your dreaming by placing “kusha grass” underneath your pillow. Over time, your dreams will become more and more auspicious. Pleasant dreams always lead to happy outcomes.

7. Create mental magic

Unlocking mental magic lies in your ability to focus your mind on a goal and to visualize yourself achieving that goal. Visualize successful scenarios for yourself and your family, and combine these mental exercises with good physical feng shui in the home.

8. Use White Light meditation to cocoon your home

Create a mental picture of a gentle white light embracing your home each night just before you go to sleep. By doing this, you are creating protection for everyone living in your home. If you make this visualization part of your nightly routine, you will over time also be strengthening your mind’s ability to focus.

9. Supplement your feng shui with positive expectations

Every morning, while you are still in the half-asleep mode, focus your mind on the happiness of waking up to a brand new day, alive and well. Focus on the positive outcomes you would like to achieve today. Visualize only good news coming to you, and only good people entering your life. This way, only good results will come from all your actions.

10. Tap the power within you

Regularly activate for good luck by developing the habit of practising mental feng shui each day. Walk through the rooms of your home and around your garden and think about what you would like to change, replace or improve. Daily exercises in awareness help to stimulate new ideas that will allow you to enhance your home’s energy. By increasing your awareness of your home, you are enhancing it with the vital essence of your own energy.

Fire up your finances, give yourself a career boost and jazz up your love life with these special energy boosting rituals that bring success faster and more effectively.

1. Boost yang chi in the Facing Palace of your home

The facing palace i.e. the front center area of your home is the most vital spot of your home. It is here that a great deal of the luck that enters the house originates, so it should be as open as possible, to pull in a steady supply of revitalizing yang chi from the cosmos outside. The steadier the flow of inward coming chi, the more the rest of the house gets bathed in this revitalizing energy so vital for success. It is also a good idea to place a pair of Fu Dogs flanking the main door, to keep out harmful energy from entering the home.

2. Boost your Main Workroom with the Sun and Moon energy

Bring in the presence of the SUN and MOON into your main work area in the house and office. Do this by having the sun and moon sign hanging behind you, the Sun on your right and the Moon on your left. The empowering energy represented by these two powerful planets is magnified when placed together. Or you can also combine them featuring the new moon shown as a crescent shape and with the sun above it as a full circle. Placed together this way, they create the symbol of a golden ingot. Display this symbol in your study room at home where you do your work, or in the office.

3. Wear mantra jewellery in gold to attract beneficial chi

Spiritual syllables and symbols when worn against the heart or throat chakra attract SUCCESS to the wearer. They also protect against harmful energies, and they bless not just the wearer but all also those who see the symbol. This is an easy way to transform bad energy into good energy, and to enhance your own personal aura. Mantra jewellery increases your charisma, boosts your popularity and gives your work effectiveness a very big boost!

4. Create a home altar to open pathways to Spirituality

Setting up an altar in the home helps to open pathways to growth in awareness of all things spiritual. Just the act of doing this creates a spiritual energy in your home that can only do you good. Your altar does not have to be elaborate, but setting up an altar creates the causes for purification, so good things can continuously flow into your life. An excellent corner for your altar is the Northwest or you can also have an altar directly facing the front door. This draws in all the good chi…

5. Magnify sacred energy in your home with holy objects

To make your living space sacred, invite holy objects into your home. This instantly creates sacred space in your home as holy objects have great power to continually transform all bad energy into pure energy. Holy objects work as powerful symbols that help you communicate with Cosmic forces and at a higher dimension of consciousness. Use Holy Objects from your own religious faith, or adopt a Deity or holy object that you have a good affinity with. Buddhists and Hindus are great believers in the power of holy objects and these can be Buddha images, stupas, prayer wheels, holy texts or sacred art.

6. Appease Spiritual Friends from Other Realms

Become sensitive to messages sent to you by Spirits who live alongside us in other parallel realms. These are the “landlords” of our living space and it is much better to live harmoniously with them, be their friends and acknowledge them than to ignore them or be afraid of them. We all have spiritual friends, spirit guides and astral companions from other realms. Becoming aware of them inside your homes and tuning into their messages often helps you make smarter and wiser decisions. This is also one way of sharpening your own subtle senses. Tuning in to the Cosmos is one of the easiest ways of practicing good spiritual inner feng shui.

7. Display auspicious symbols in the home

Every spiritual and esoteric tradition has special symbols that carry an intrinsic force for good. These symbols can change the quality and movement of energy in any space simply by having them in the home space and feeling good about them. Every object in space has energy and auspicious symbols give off auspicious energies. You can choose from many different symbols depending on what specific wish you want actualized.

8. READ powerful SUTRAS for all kinds of Success

There are so many powerful SUTRAS which are now so easily available and these contain some of the most powerful magic imaginable. Usually just by reading four lines of the Sutras that are records of the direct teachings of the Buddha is sufficient to actualize all kinds of good fortune from invoking great wealth luck to great good health and more importantly, to ease life’s burdens by purifying all the obstacles in our life. Many Sutras also contain implicit protective attributes that work like amulets and powerful talismans.

9. Create the ritual of invoking the Sun’s empowering rays

If you want to empower a particular work area in the house you can simulate the SUN’s powerful rays radiating outwards from the center of that room. Stand in the center of the room and visualize the sun there in your hands and then imagine it radiating powerful rays outwards in the eight directions and then above and below. Thus a sphere of light is created that lights up the entire room.

Use your fingers to draw the symbol of the Sun (a big circle in the center of the room) where you feel needs a dose of sunshine energy. Imagine that you are creating a ball of brilliant light then visualize the sun’s rays emanating outwards from it and washing your room with powerful light energy. Done once a week, this is a very powerful revitalizing imaging ritual.

One of the key things everyone should take note of is the safety and security of your present way of life. We can call this protecting your assets, your money, your valuables and most of all your lifestyle. This requires you to watch against getting robbed and being burgled of things that belong to you. Being cheated or robbed is one of the worst things happen in life.

In feng shui, being robbed of something that is rightfully yours can also refer to your position, your job, or your good name. Intangible things like that that mean as much as physical possessions.

Chances of falling prey to the robbery affliction increase when the number 7 star flies into your main door sector or into your bedroom. The Number 7 star is a number that has extremely unpleasant connotations, bringing violence and bloodshed associated with metal energy such as knives, swords and guns. But it also stands for burglary and the negative luck of having someone steal from you or cheat you. Whenever this star makes an appearance, you are advised to be very careful.

To guard against something unfortunate like this happening to you or any members of your family, it is a good idea to update the annual feng shui of your home by looking out for the misfortune star that brings robbery and burglary luck. The annual number 7 in 2022 is located in the WEST sector.

There are many ways to protect you against this harmful energy.

  1. Place a pair of rhinoceros and elephant, preferably in blue. These creatures will prevent people with bad intentions from reaching you. It will also protect you from burglars and cheats, and unsavoury and dishonest people.
  2. The presence of Water element energy is also excellent for suppressing the ill effect of 7 in house feng shui. The best is to use a specially-designed water feature. The flowing water will dissolve all the violent energy brought by the number 7 star. Water has the power to exhaust the Metal energy of seven.
  3. Attach Anti Burglary amulet stickers onto your vehicle windscreen and home windows to keep safe against robbery, violence and road rage.
  4. For personal safety against snatch thieves and petty crime, use the Anti Burglary Amulet. Clip onto your handbag as a lucky charm hanging to bring you protection and security.
  5. Display a pair of Fu Dogs flanking the front entrance to your home to protect any negative energy from entering your home.
  6. Do not place any crystal or Metal energy such as windchimes in the area where the violent 7 resides. Make sure there are no windchimes in the West this year!

When it comes to design, there needs to be a balance between what looks cool and what makes sense. Many designers tend to lose perspective of this and tend to design without any consideration to the requirements of the client, instead, opting for the ‘coolest’ design. But it is just as important to note that what may look cool to one person may not necessarily appeal to another person, while a practical solution to a space will appeal to everyone.

The first step in juggling this balancing act is to know your audience. Understand what your client wants and try to find a solution that works for them. And there is no more personal space in the house than the bedroom, because this is where one has to literally ‘live in’ every day.

Tip 1 – Avoid Shocking Colours

Candy colours and wavy lines are unsuitable for bedrooms.

Identify colours and tones that are suitable to the room use, and colour ranges that are acceptable to the user. One of the biggest mistakes is to select a colour scheme that may create the ‘shock effect’ by giving the sense of a sudden surprise, but then renders the space unlivable.

Take for example this room where the colour pink has been over-used. Our initial reaction would be the overwhelming effect of the colours. While “cool” in the beginning, this singular colour effect will ultimately dominate the room, making it difficult to accept and to live in on a daily basis. Once the personal paraphernalia goes in, the pinkness stops looking so Barbie-perfect and starts to have a gagging effect.

Similarly, another design element to highlight in this example is to avoid the use of wavy lines in the bedroom as these distract from any perceivable line of sight, causing a loss of balance. From a feng shui perspective, wavy lines also symbolize the element of water, which is not suitable for use in bedrooms.

Tip 2 – Avoid Plants and Sharp Corners

Plants sap the earth energy needed to strengthen marriage.

In this example, there are a few elements to highlight on what not to do. While the design concept is to adopt a more oriental theme with the colours of the space in zen balance, the use of the furniture and the interior accents immediately set off warning bells.

First, you should always avoid any sharp or protruding corners. In this case, the zigzag design of the bookcase breaks two major taboos. 1) You should never have anything above your head when you sleep; and 2) you should never have anything sharp above your head.

Second, the use of plants, while they add to the “oriental theme”, has no place in the bedroom.

Third, you should always think about the proportions of space. Look at how different design elements affect our perception of a room. In this case, the scale of the bed to the window and ceiling seems rather disproportionate as the space between the ceiling and the window looks ‘tight’ thereby making the window the tallest element in the room. By doing so, it forces the ceiling to be lifted even higher than it is, visually causing the bed to shrink in size and float around the room, and thereby losing the sense of intimacy and solitude which is what is needed for every bedroom.

Finally, avoid any eccentric patterns on the ceiling, as this causes a whole array of visual confusion, and forces the ceiling to push itself down onto the room, creating claustrophobia as if being trapped within the space.

Tip 3 – Avoid Odd Shaped Rooms

“Be simple but not simplistic”

Everyone loves the attic. Attics are a great sanctuary to find privacy, gather your thoughts and be secluded from the rest of the world. But with attics with limited ceiling space, don’t try to make it your bedroom. In this scenario, the pitched ceiling has inadvertently created a poison arrow straight down the middle as if cutting the bed in half. And due to the limited space, light is brought in through the use of skylights, which then creates further shards as if cutting further into the bed.

While the idea of living in the attic is a cool idea, the reality is that if the space doesn’t fit, living in there would create further depressing issues and neglect for the room in the end. Always think of the practical aspects of a room before the accents of the room.

Tip 4 – Finding A Balance

The bedroom is a place of rest so use soothing colours that create a homely feel.

When we design a bedroom, it is important to find the balance between all the design elements such as colours, heights, texture and furniture design in order to create the ideal setting. Remember, the bedroom is a place to relax and sleep. Don’t overwhelm the space with elements such as hot colours or ‘ultra modern’ designs. It is better to tone down the visuals to create a more homely feel.

In this setting, the use of an earth tone is highlighted through the different elements of the room such as the beige back headboard, carpet, furniture and drapes. This is further balanced with the neutral wall and bed sheet colours, which helps to distribute the colours throughout the room so it does not over-dominate the space.

The next design factor is to balance the proportions of the room. By using long drapes, this helps to accentuate the vertical element of the window wall, rather than breaking it up between the window and wall between the ceiling. By doing so, we are able to grab the sense of the space through the bed heights and occasional furniture such as the lamps and paintings, bringing the room to a more human scale of living.

When we look at our bedrooms, always take note that what is cool is not necessarily good for you. Always keep the design simple. Don’t introduce any design element that causes your attention to be focused as the key design intent if you want your bedroom to evoke a sense of peace and solitude. The moment we start to introduce these overly ‘cool’ design elements, our attention is too focused, which causes restlessness and agitation.

It is important to attune yourself to the clearing process. The act itself is a departure from a normal kind of day. It is a departure from routine, and the mind gets a creative jolt that is not unwelcome. When the mind focuses on the process of dejunking physical space, it automatically goes into cleansing mode.

Every time you clear out your clutter, it will take you less time to do so than the last and the whole process will feel increasingly natural. Each time it will become easier, but the important thing is to start, for once you experience its benefits, you will want to do it again and again. This is how the mind reacts, adapts, and contributes to any beneficial activity.

Keep your kitchen clear, as all junk there is bad

The build-up of junk in the kitchen can be quite dangerous. This is because bad energy can seep into the food you eat. Cooked food is not as susceptible to absorbing yin chi (which can cause illness) as cold food is, since it is already yin. If you are a salad-and-sandwiches person, do ensure that your kitchen stays reasonably free of yin energy, which emanates from kitchen clutter.

Revitalizing your kitchen

You need to de-junk your kitchen as often as possible to avoid the harmful build-up of yin chi. Below is what you must do often:

  1. Clean the refrigerator. Do this once a month so that leftover food does not get lost in the back and rot into poison. Do the same for the cabinets that hold grocery goods. For instance, people have a nasty habit of ignoring canned food for so long that it turns bad before they notice. The same thing happens with exotic sauces and seasonings that become harmful junk as they degenerate in half-opened bottles and containers.
  2. Check out cookware. In the kitchen, all physical junk is bad and should be thrown away. Included in this category are not just stale foods and foodstuff, but also broken plates, cups, and bowls. Cooking pots and pans also cannot last forever, and once defective, they should be replaced. Don’t buy a new frying pan just to keep the old one with its scratched Teflon surface; or hold on to that worn-out, ugly coffeemaker that you have already replaced with a brand new model.
  3. Double-check trash cans. Make sure to clear the garbage regularly and to throw away rotting food. Also clear the cat litter and make sure any goldfish bowls here are kept clean. Untidy, dirty kitchens ruin more marriages and cause more heartache than you would imagine. Among all of the rooms of the home, this is the place that is most vulnerable to the build-up of yin energy, so treat all physical junk in the kitchen as bad and get rid of it.

Treat bedrooms as sacred spaces

Keep your bedroom free of clutter for peaceful, restful sleep. Treat this area as if it is a sacred space, since this is where you spend all of your sleeping, subconscious time. This is where you leave the conscious world and go into another dimension. Here is where you dream dreams and let yourself go. Here is where you rest, cocooned from the world. So keep this space sacred and special.

Keep the energy of the bedroom free from energy that is negative, harmful, stale, or hostile – so throw out things that make the energy turn sour. Instead, place only things you love in your bedroom, things that make you feel pampered and beautiful.

Practical Tips

  1. Don’t store clothes high on elevated shelves in your bedroom. This is a bad idea because they create heaviness above the sleeping level. Store your winter wardrobe in a store room and keep all of your suitcases in another room.
  2. Keep all exercise equipment, bikes, and wall mirrors out of the bedroom. Your place of rest is not your gym.
  3. Make sure that all work-related junk is kept away from the bedroom. Do not have a work desk here, so that you eliminate the danger of work-junk piling up inside the bedroom. Keep computers and telephones out. Let children have a specialized study room, rather than a desk in their bedroom. If there are insufficient rooms in your house for this, try to place the desk a little away from the bed so that junk that builds up on the desk does not affect the sleeping child.
  4. Keep all dirty clothes inside a laundry basket. Nothing is more yin than dirty clothes; the energy it gives off permeates any room pretty fast.
  5. Do not place junk under, over, or beside a bed. Keep beds clean at all times.
  6. Keep all doors clear of junk so that they open and close smoothly.
  7. Never hang questionable art on the walls of your bedroom. Make sure you never hang anything that looks threatening or anything that can attract bad luck.
  8. Keep windows clear of clutter. Curtains can be left open or closed at night, but it is advisable to let the light flow in once the sun is up. Nothing brings in better yang energy than morning sunlight.

When we move into a new home, one of the questions we ponder about is the selection of which bedroom to give to each family member. While selecting may sound easy, it can also be one of the more important decisions made, as it directly affects the luck of each family member.

So how do we begin in the selection process? First, we need to study the general floor plan to identify which bedrooms belong to East group and which to West group. Once we have segregated the rooms into East and West, we then match each family member’s Kua number to their room groups. East group individuals should sleep in rooms located in the East group sectors (East, Southeast, South or North) and West group individuals should sleep in rooms located in West group sectors (Southwest, Northwest, Northeast and West).

While it is ideal to select a room that is in the same East or West group as your Kua, we usually find ourselves in the situation where we have to settle with a room that is not in the same group category as our Kua number. When this is the case, we have to look at a few factors to decide which room is most suitable.

For example, if you are a West group person and having to choose rooms located in the East sectors, first look for the room that is firstly NOT in your total loss sector, then try to find a room that is the least inauspicious for you based on your inauspicious directions.

Next, study the shape and orientation of the room to see whether the room is suitable for you to tap your auspicious directions. With most bedrooms, we only have 1 or 2 walls to choose from due to the location of the wardrobes, windows and doors. In most cases, the bed location is predetermined through the location of the power points and the bed location in relation to the windows and doors. So we have to make sure that the bed direction is one that is suitable for you.

Tip 1: Always try to select a room which allows a bed position where you are able to tap one of your auspicious directions.

The next step is to be aware of your surroundings and to identify whether there are any elements that pose a threat to your sleeping position, such as wall edges, direct line of sight of the doors, and whether your bed is positioned such that it forces you to sleep with a toilet behind you. In some cases, we have to strike a fine balance of the good and the bad, and settle for a bed position that takes into account all the negatives to find a positive solution.

Design Solution 1

1: Use screens to block off any direct line of sight of the doors; 2: Use backdrop to create a partition with the wall and help centralize the bed in relation to the room.

In the example here, we are faced with a situation whereby the room is located in the South corner of the home, thereby ideal for all East group persons. However, the only wall that is ideal for the residents is the West wall which coincidently is the person’s total loss direction. In such a case, we have to look for alternative directions to locate the bed.

When we consider the constraints of the bedroom space, the North and South walls do not seem ideal, as the North wall results in the bed being cramped into a corner, causing a major shift in the overall room orientation. This can result in a claustrophobic effect. By having the bed along the South wall, it causes the bed to not only be cramped to a corner, but also positioned such that it sits in between wall and window, which would create more problems than it would solve.

Therefore, through elimination of directions, the most ‘ideal’ direction in this case would be the East wall, which would allow the bed to center itself to the main orientation of the room. The downside is that the door to the room would directly face the bed, so a partition screen would be needed to divert the direct line of sight, which then allows the bed to sit within the room properly and also to create a small entry foyer to divert the flow of movement.

The other aspect is that the bed headboard would be sharing the same wall as the toilet. To avoid this, a physical partition backdrop is introduced to create a physical barrier with the toilet wall, but also to create a backdrop that reinforces the bed position to the overall room shape and orientation.

Design Solution 2

1: Use screens to disperse any sharp corners; 2: Create partitions to regularize odd shaped rooms into 2 regular shapes, to centralize the arrangement of furniture within the room.

In a second situation, we are faced with an odd-shaped room situated in the West corner of the house. With the resident being a West group person, it also means there is only one direction for us to position the bed. So to find the solution, we first must identify the issues of the room. In the main section of the room, the doors are placed such that they would be in direct line of sight of the bed and cramped in a corner. Also due to the odd shape of the room, it creates a sharp edge that directly faces the entrance door, thus creating an invisible poison arrow to anyone that enters the room.

To resolve this situation, a partition screen is needed, to serve a dual purpose. First, it allows the corner edge to disappear, and second, it allows the room to be divided into two regular shaped rooms. This allows the main area to act as the bedroom living, where all the entertainment and reading would be done, and the smaller area can then serve as the main sleeping quarters. This creates a more intimate scenario where we allow the bed to be positioned to face the West direction, but also create a niche sector to separate the room in two parts, differentiating between the yin and yang activities of the bedroom.

Tip #2: Create screens to disperse any sharp corners.
Tip #3: Use your walls and floors to introduce colors to enhance the room.

Finally, the other aspect to take into consideration is the Flying Star combination in the room. Based on the facing direction of the house, we are able to extract the Flying Star combinations of the sector, and from there, we can identify what elements would be ideal to control or to enhance the room. Through the different elements of your design palette, we can introduce any element into the room through the use of flooring materials, wall colours and ID decorative features, thereby creating an aesthetic feel that not only suits our design intent but also becoming a feng shui cure in itself.

Tip #4: Identify the location of the room and its shape, and see how best we can make the room suitable for our living conditions.
Tip #5: Identify what elements you need in the room and create an appealing environment that takes care of the feng shui as well as the design intent.

Are you feeling blah about your life? Does boredom make you unmotivated and unexcited? Are you having a mid-life crisis? Give your personal motivation a boost to overcome this kind of inertia. Here are 7 easy ways to help you set new goals and to get your career back on a course that excites and motivates you.

1. IMPROVE YOUR YOUR PERSONAL WORK SPACE

If you want to enjoy good feng shui at work, try to select your work space carefully.

Guidelines:

  • Always try to have your office and desk in the far corner diagonal to the entrance door into the whole office. The deeper you are inside the office, the better the feng shui.
  • Never have your office or desk located at the end of a straight corridor or walkway.
  • Do not sit in an office or at a desk that directly faces a toilet door or staircase. Your chances for advancement will be severely curtailed.
  • Do not sit in an office or at a desk that places you directly underneath an exposed overhead beam. You will suffer from endless pressure and headaches.
  • Do not sit with your back to the door, whether it is the door into your private office or the door into the main office itself.
  • Never sit at a desk which subjects you to the cutting edge of a protruding corner. Move out of the line of fire or use a leafy plant to block it.

2. TAKE NOTE OF SEATING ARRANGEMENTS AT WORK

When you are involved in business meetings, always make sure you do not sit with a pointed edge of a table facing you. If you do this, you will have a poison arrow aimed at your stomach and will be placed at a disadvantage compared to the rest of your colleagues. Always sit facing your best direction while you are working.

3. ENERGIZING YOUR COMPASS GROUP

West Group Energizer

  • Energize the West with a model aeroplane laden with coins tied with red thread. Bells and windchimes are also effective.
  • Energize the Northwest in the same way. Do not put bright lights in either the West or Northwest as these will magnify all your problems.
  • Energize the Southwest with lots of natural crystals. If your main office door is also located in the Southwest, then placing a large crystal here is most effective. A large amethyst crystal boulder with a deep ‘pocket’ to capture all the good fortune coming into office is ideal for attracting good business luck.
  • Energize the Northeast in the same way as the Southwest, but it is not necessary to display crystals that are too large here.

East Group Energizers

  • Energize the East corner with plants, flowers and paintings that feature lush vegetation and water. Avoid anything metallic in this corner. Windchimes, scissors and blades cause a lot of harm here.
  • Do the same for the Southeast corner, except here you can also display a miniature fountain or a simple bowl of water.
  • In the North, place a broad-based bowl of water with a terrapin inside. This can be real or fake. The real one is to be preferred.
  • In the South, place something red – a painting, red carpet, red cushions – and a bright light to energize the luck of a great reputation. Properly energized, the South brings excellent reputation luck.

4. CREATING SUPPORT WITH A MOUNTAIN

  • In the office, never sit with your back to the door. Doing so invites deception and betrayal. You should always sit with your back supported.
  • Sit with a painting of a mountain behind you but make sure it is big enough to be meaningful. Do not have mountain ranges that are too sharp since these Fire element mountains are less useful. The best type of mountain for protection is a mountain that resembles the back of a turtle.

5. POSITION YOUR TELEPHONE FOR LUCK

  • If you want to feng shui the telephone and fax machine in your office, you must first observe from what direction the energy that brings the messages through the phone line is coming. This is considered the source of the telephone’s energy.
  • The next thing to do is to position the phone so that the source of messages, calls and so forth is coming from your most auspicious direction – your sheng chi direction.
  • Do not make the mistake of thinking it is the wall plug we are talking about. It is where the connection lead itself is plugged into the phone that matters.

6. PLACE A LUCKY CRIMSON BIRD IN THE SOUTH

  • The South is the Crimson Phoenix which symbolizes fame and recognition. The Phoenix also brings the luck of opportunities. When you energize this king of all feathered creatures, you are also activating the beneficial energies of the South. The luck of this particular sector suggests a great brightness, because the South is also the place of the element of Fire. Thus a crimson feathered creature to symbolize the phoenix is extremely auspicious. It will activate your social life and you will become well-liked and popular amongst your colleagues and work associates.

7. ENERGIZING YOUR DESK TOP FOR CAREER SUCCESS

Flowers

  • Place a vase of fresh flowers on the East side of your desk. Flowers create yang energy. But do not allow flowers to overwhelm you or block your view. And always change the flowers as soon as they start to show signs of wilting.

Plants

  • Place a healthy small plant in the Southeast corner of your desk. This attracts good income luck and enhances your chances of personal growth.

Crystals

  • Place a smooth crystal ball in the Southwest corner of your desk to create the luck of harmonious relationships with all your colleagues.

Lamps

  • Any kind of light energizes your good name and reputation when placed in the South. This is one of the most excellent methods of creating a solid reputation within your company, and within your business community.

Calculators and Computers

  • All personal office equipment made of metal should be placed on a separate table that is preferably located to the West or Northwest of your desk. If you need to have them on your desktop, place them to the right of you, but make certain you also have something higher to place on the left side. This ensures that the energies of the Dragon will prevail over the Tiger.

A quick and easy way to instantly improve the feng shui around you is to identify the few important WALLS in your home and office that could perhaps do with some attention; walls should be thought of as blank canvases which can be used to create auspicious ambience, the kind that lifts up your spirits. The positioning, layout and design of walls stamp themselves onto our consciousness and the more important walls in the home or office can create either excellent feng shui, or they can block good luck from flowing to us. Energy produced by walls can either be very lucky for us or they can be depressing.

In this article, LILLIAN TOO puts the spotlight on the few vitally important walls that have the potential to bring extreme good fortune or misfortune, and thus are deserving of attention. The effect of walls on residents is almost subliminal, and these days, with so many modern ways of improving the feng shui of our surroundings, there is simply no excuse to get careless about our walls.

Start by studying the location of all the walls in your home. The general rule is that every room should have at least one solid wall. This signifies the abode where the spirit of the room resides; it creates the foundation around which energy accumulates, so how the location of this one wall interacts with the rest of the home has a great impact on the mood of the home; whether it is a happy enriching wall or a source of negative depressing vibrations.

To make your walls of your home truly auspicious, constantly inspiring you and lifting your spirits, you need to work at making each important wall a strongly enhancing wall rand protect against it becoming a blocking wall that merely brings obstacles and blocking energy. So the first thing to take note of is the way the walls of the home have been positioned.

When you start looking at your walls this way, your own common sense will immediately tell you which of your walls are enhancing and enriching and which are those that just do not seem right – just asking to be knocked down !

You can have more than one solid wall but rooms should not have solid walls on three sides; otherwise the room will suffer from potentially stagnating energy; where a shortage of fresh cosmic energy soon causes the room to suffer from yin spirit formation. The room then becomes suffocating. Rooms must be airy and they should benefit from daily fresh supplies of cosmic energy . These must flow in from the great outdoors. Rooms devoid of this flow of replenishing energy tend to cause problems for residents. So there must not be too many walls blocking this vital source of energy.

Rooms should ideally have at least one wall with windows; rooms that lie in the center of the home can suffer from a lack of cosmic replenishment so they should not have more than two solid walls. Then only can energy flows not get blocked. Remember that the center of your home should not suggest too much hemmed in energy. It should never become enclosed dead end space. This guideline to good feng shui is especially important in homes which are left empty for much of the day.

The important walls of your home

  • The WALL that directly faces the main door
  • The WALL that directly faces your bed
  • The WALL that directly faces the dining table
  • The WALL in the living area
  • The WALL you look at all day while working
  • The WALL behind you as you work
  • The WALL near the front door leading into the home

These are the major walls you can work on to bring incredibly good feng shui into your living space. Focus on each one in turn and consider the different ways you can enhance their energy so they become a source of contentment, peace and even inspiration. Think of the times when these walls leave a subliminal imprint onto your mind, stamping itself into your deepest subconscious minds. This is why the walls that hit you on a daily basis must indeed induce positive rather than negative thoughts.

You can use any of the feng shui tools – mirrors, wall paper, wall decals, lights, paintings, photographs, murals, inspiring words and even powerful mantras – all these and more can be used to enhance your wall.

Some people even hang beautiful decorative images from their important walls. Or they glue on inspiring words, or carefully decorate their walls with auspicious decals that leave strong and powerful imprints. My walls are decorated in a variety of ways and I use wall decals a lot as these are subtle and unobtrusive yet so powerful in their positive effect.

Enhancement techniques do not need to imply a permanence of decoration. Walls in fact benefit from being redecorated, repainted and totally revamped every two to three years.

I redo my walls regularly either with new decorative decals or with new paintings. And definitely the walls are repainted every other year. There is nothing I love more than clean walls that hint of fresh paint. This gives the whole living area a feeling of freshness that suggests good things are just beginning. I also make sure that my walls, and everything that hangs on it or is used to decorate it, never get dirty or dusty. These get wiped daily.

Clutter and dirt are the principle enemies of good feng shui. This is why I am so compulsive about keeping all my spaces clean, free of clutter and never blocked. My walls always look pristine. Where I have installed a wall mirror such as for instance in my dining area to directly reflect the dining table and thus double our daily food on the table; or the one in my living area to double the yang chi of activity created here; these mirrors are wiped daily with a dry piece of newspaper ( this is an excellent way to enhance the mirror and keep it really sharp and clear). I also make sure my mirrors never gets smudged with dirty hands.

The WALL that directly faces your main door should not have a mirror. A reflective surface here can cause all good luck to bounce right out again; it also brings illness to the master of the house. This wall should instead have either an auspicious image or it should be left blank. You can use a matte color to create a feature wall. For instance bright red wall that faces the direction South or an understated darker green directly facing East would be lucky. Choose colours according to the element of the facing direction of the door. Thus earth or yellow colour for doors facing SW or NE; Blue for doors facing North and metallic for doors facing NW or West.

Colours can also be used to suppress some afflictive star number causing problems for your door in any given year. For instance this year, doors that face SE are afflicted by the 5 yellow, so a metallic colour wall directly facing the main door would be an excellent idea.

Any wall that faces your front door, whether it is a complete or a partial wall, should always seem welcoming; it is auspicious when it makes you think positive or inspiring thoughts related to an important ambition or aspiration of yours or it should simply bring a smile to your face. I do not have a wall directly facing my main door but I do have a two feet wide upper wall on which I hang a large plaque with nine golden dragons. This welcomes in beneficial chi and seeing it every time I come home makes me feel very welcome indeed.

Walls that are in the living room area or the dining room can also be used to hang happy family pictures. In fact it is a great idea to select an especially happy picture of the whole family together, and hang this on a prominent wall in the house. This is powerful feng shui. It creates the feng shui of safety and togetherness for the whole family.

Then on the wall leading into my home I have used golden decals to create a flock of happy birds flying into my house. these are very tastefully designed and artfully placed by the designer who makes these decals – my niece in law actually, Audrey who is married to my nephew Han Jin. She has a great artistic gift which she is cleverly channeling into making beautiful artistic wall decals that really personalizes space in the most effective way.

One of her best selling designs are exactly these birds that bring good luck and wonderful opportunities into any home. She tried them out for her own home first and since putting up these birds on the wall leading into her home, she has progressed in her career really satisfactorily. Her little online business is also growing very fast. More importantly, she has never felt happier or more fulfilled. Birds do have that kind of positive effect! Each time someone wants to sell a house for instance, creating the image of a bird on the wall here but now flying out with the price being asked for in its mouth is one way of attracting a serious buyer!

Any wall that directly faces your bed should have a soothing ambience although some people have placed inspiring words or powerful affirmations here with great success. Doing this is like practicing 3D feng shui – as subliminal thoughts get implanted onto the sub conscious mind without you even realizing it. Each night the last thing you see before closing your eyes and each morning the first thing you see before becoming completely awake should be images or thoughts that make you feel galvanized, confident and very secure. Good feng shui always follows positive thoughts. And you can use your bedroom wall to plant these thoughts into your mind. This also leads to good pleasant dreams that is so good for your subliminal feng shui.

Do avoid placing images of depressing or socially aware pictures such as starving children, depressive scenes or other nightmare inducing images in your bedroom.

The wall that directly face you at work can also be a source of affirmative words – although powerful words impacting on a busy mind cannot have the same effect as it does on a relaxed mind. If you work from home it is an excellent idea to face a water feature or a beautiful garden and if this is not possible, then simulating the presence of such would be most beneficial. Thus having a wall facing you decorated with a wall mural can be a great way of simulating the presence of flowing water or a harvesting scene … anything taken from nature that suggests something abundant or lucky will always work well. At all costs avoid anything that can represent or signify an obstacle or which appears threatening. certain types of modern artistic renditions can be harmful so be watchful of the stuff you hang in front of you.

The wall that faces me as I write in my home office is my prize Chinese painting of the 8 Immortals, each holding an auspicious object and having a wide smile on a happy face.

Finally the wall that is behind you as you work is even more important as this wall represents support for you. Whether you are at home or in the office a wall behind you is always beneficial. An image of a strong mountain placed here suggests support for you. Do not hang a picture of a hole or at your back. It is also not good having anything hostile here. Refrain from hanging pictures of sharp edged buildings or wild animals behind you.

Every project creates different issues, which in turn require different solutions for designing the Feng Shui of the home. Using Flying Star and Eight Mansions charts allows us to create a solid base to organize our basic space plan. Through the interpretation of numbers within the sectors, we can identify key areas in our homes or offices which we would want to allocate to the more important functions of our lives, and then segregate the secondary functions to other areas.

Once we have organized the basic platform, the next step is to introduce an element of creativity into the design to develop the overall concept. To do so, we need to explore the following fine points of design, and how they affect the way we look at building and living.

Versatile Spaces

This aspect of design is something I stress about the most. As we evolve in our lives, we are in the state of constant change. The way we live and interact with others, and the responsibilities we assume, will change depending on which stage of growth we are in. We thus need to design a home that is able to grow and change with us. So we need to ask ourselves: what makes a space versatile? And more importantly, what does versatility mean?

Versatility implies the ability to fit multiple uses into a singular space, depending on your requirement at any point in time. In order to create this environment, we need to study the area and look at how many ways it can change. To begin with, we need to develop a relationship diagram where we look at the different ways we can arrange the spaces of the home.

By exploring the different ways space can be used, we can design the home to suit whatever lifestyle we lead. For example, the dining room can double up as a meeting area, if the home is also used as a home office, while the kitchen can be designed with an integrated kitchen-dining concept.

One key aspect to note is that certain areas are required to be fixed, such as the main door and kitchen. The main door should always be located in a sector that manifests some auspicious flying star combination. Similarly, the kitchen should not be located in any sector that may affect the luck of the residents or be placed in an area that interrupts the luck of the home. How we play with the other areas of the home depends on how we want to live at that point of time.

Orientations

The next step is to look into is the concept of orientations. Whether it be the door, portal or corridor space, every element of the home needs to be orientated properly such that it fits in with the overall design. For example, ask yourself what you see or want to see when you first enter the home. Is the wall balanced in front of you, are you going to design the first thing you see as a feature wall, or would it be a transitional element to lead you to other areas of the home?

Create a natural flow through the home

As we move through the home, well-placed key features can help pull attention towards certain areas, while diverting attention away from other areas. Through certain design techniques, we can create an invisible flow of energy through the home, moving from one experience to another. Here are some tricks of the trade to consider when planning the “journey” through the home:

Change of Colour

Colours and wall tones can imply the use of different sectors within the home. Darker colours create a more intimate feel, while brighter yang colours suggest a more public domain.

Change of Volume

A change in ceiling heights can help highlight certain areas, through the concept of an ‘explosion of space’. It is in our natural behaviour to be attracted to spaces that offer the most comfort to the visual and emotional senses. By playing with different heights and ceiling designs, we can draw the flow of energy to specific areas around the home.

Portal Sizes

Portals around the home can be used highlight key interior design features. Openings to the exterior may be set up to act as viewports, allowing the interior and exterior spaces to merge, thereby creating a visual enlargement of the space. Another design technique involves the use of vignettes, which helps draw attention to a central feature within the room, thereby creating a strong alignment of how the furniture is to be arranged within that space. When the use of the space changes, we determine a new feature portal or vignette to suit that same space.

For example, a dining would require a feature element to centralize and highlight the space such as a mirror or painting set within a vignette. That same space may then be used later as a sitting area where a different feature would draw our attention somewhere else, such as a portal feature towards the external landscape. Take another step further and transform that space into a circulation space, where multiple vignettes are used to create a gallery-style design.

Remember that the energies that surround us are always in constant flux. The luck of the home changes from year to year, period to period and so our lives would too. We grow and mature in our mindset and we build on our family values and experience, therefore our expectations will change and grow with us. To accommodate for the changes in our lives, we need the home we live in to change according to our needs and expectations.

Lillian Too puts the spotlight on developing cosmic awareness to investigating feng shui ills around the house that could be causing problems to surface. The method involves using a special hand mudra used in conjunction with a focused mindset to investigate things that are out of sync inside your home; things that could be causing imbalances that create problems, setbacks and obstacles that block your success.

FIRST, THE HAND MUDRA

There is an investigative hand mudra you can learn to use when you wish to uncover and “smell out” negative energy that may be causing you or your family to fall sick, or causing you to experience obstacles in your life.

First, focus on whatever may be troubling you. It can be an illness, an obstacle, perhaps severe quarrelling energy, conflicts with others or within the family; troubles at work, a sudden worsening of a physical ailment, an accident, an attempted burglary or a financial crisis… actually, the problem can be anything at all, but if you “feel” that perhaps something may be not right about the energy of your space, you can find out if indeed something may be out of sync.

The hand mudra recommended here is a powerful mudra found on many sacred statues and images of Buddhas and Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy. Taoist masters give it great credence in feng shui work.

  • Bring both hands together.
  • Join the fingers of both hands facing each other, index finger joined to index finger, little finger to little finger and thumb to thumb.
  • Fold the other two remaining fingers under.

Used correctly, it will draw you towards physical imbalances in your space or towards misplacements of objects that could be emitting bad energy in your important corners. These are items you may have overlooked or which have broken but you are not aware of it or it may not be immediately obvious. The mudra is sure to assist you in your feng shui detective work.

With both hands joined thus, walk around the rooms of your home in a relaxed manner, but keeping a keen eye out for the familiar objects in your home, including your furniture, decorative items that are on the walls, the tables and the floors. Be mindful of the energy at all times. Tune into it while allowing your joined hands to point the way.

Your hand mudra is a powerful investigative gesture which also affords you great auric protection. This is the mudra that connects you to the cosmic realms that are parallel to our human realm, and it also engages the assistance of the spirits and local landlords of your space. They will recognize the sacredness of this hand gesture.

When the energy of any portion of the space is negative, your hands will start to tingle or shake. If it does, do stop and look around you more closely. Your hand mudra is helping you to penetrate the chi of that part of the house, and usually, if you look closely enough, it will reveal the cause of any illness or problem area you may be experiencing.

Developing the ability to feel out spaces with negative energy enables you to play feng shui detective in your homes. You can over time systematically develop all seven of your awareness sensors to help you find the cause and then alleviate, for instance, a sudden spate of illness hurting every member of the family, an unexpected lowering of energy causing despondency which seems to sap you of your strength, a series of business setbacks causing your mood to turn negative and just almost any kind of obstacle that may affect your success.

Taoists Masters steeped in the knowledge of cosmic principles know that many negative developments/events/occurrences in any home or office can be caused by some matching affliction in the physical space; and that when what is wrong can be detected, then the cause of negativities can indeed be “traced” and then dealt with. Usually, the feeling that something around you or your home does not feel “quite right” should be pursued.

To help you understand how this works here are three examples.

1. NEST OF RED ANTS

Once some years ago, one of my maids suddenly developed an ugly red rash across the front part of her body. Nothing we used could get her out of her misery as the rash itched and caused her a great deal of discomfort. And no matter what we did, the rash simply refused to subside.

I decided to play detective and using the hand mudra walked around the inside and outside of her room. I stopped outside her window where I discovered a nest of red ants at the base of the rambutan tree there. The nest of ants was directly facing her room window and the nest itself was quite large.

I immediately appeased the ant nest with incense offering… invoking the local spirit there for assistance. Within a week, the ants appeared to have left to build their nest elsewhere. More importantly, the rash cleared up; the itch disappeared.

2. LINE ACROSS THE FACE OF LADY IN MY SCREEN

This was a Chinese Screen I used to place along one wall of my living room. It was a beautiful antique screen that featured the Queen of the West Hsi Wang Mu. There was a hairline crack across the face of this lady and when I noticed it, I realized it was really quite inauspicious.

I had developed a very severe pain across my face and was reluctant to see the doctor because there seemed no apparent reason for the pain. I used the investigation mudra to get a feel for the energy in my living areas and that was how I discovered the problem. As soon as I saw the crack, I dismantled the screen, folded it and stored it away in the back room. Believe it or not my pain vanished almost instantly.

3. BIG CRACK IN OUR RICE URN

This was something that happened many years ago but I never forgot because it made me extra careful after that. I had just returned from Hong Kong and was going through a bad time. Despite a great effort on my part, I simply could not shake off a feeling of dread and fear; it was totally illogical and unreasonable, but I kept feeling that I was about to lose some money, that my investments would go bad, that I was over spending… I could not sleep well at all. So I decided to walk round my home in the hope of seeing if perhaps something was not right with the energy.

I used the mudra and stopped in front of my rice urn. My heart skipped a beat because I was starring at a huge crack that ran the length of the urn from the mouth to the bottom. The maid had turned the crack to the back so it was not immediately noticeable.

Once I changed the rice urn, it was like a cloud had lifted. My feelings of dread evaporated and I became more confident. So sometimes when you feel uncertain and unsure of yourself and it is affecting your judgment and your relations with others, use the mudra and see if maybe something in your living space is perhaps causing you to feel the way you do.

It is a good idea to mindful of decorative objects hanging on your walls, plates used daily, art pieces standing on your mantelpiece, paintings in your important rooms, broken glass on the windows, cracked furniture in the bedroom and so forth – these can often cause bigger problems than you realize. The energy of space is sensitive to imbalances and these can manifest in afflictions and ailments that really cause problems.
